AFC Bournemouth vs Brentford: two points against five, the gap is already there 
Brentford sit fifth in the Premier League with five points after three rounds. Bournemouth have two and are down in 15th.
Three points between them after only three matches, and the table is already starting to sort itself out between two clubs that usually scrap for the same patch of ground.
They meet in round four at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday 12 September at 15:00 UK time, which is 16:00 in France.
The Cherries come in off the most encouraging result of their season so far, a 2-2 draw snatched at St James’ Park against Newcastle. It is their only real bright spot since the restart.
Brentford, meanwhile, are coming off a home draw with Sunderland. It halted their climb up the table but did not end their unbeaten run.
The bigger picture is already easy to read: Manchester City and Arsenal have nine points from nine, with the same +5 goal difference.
Hull City are the surprise package in third with seven points and a clean sheet record that still stands. Chelsea complete the top four on six points, just ahead of Brentford.
The London club are right in touch with the top after three rounds. Liverpool, Newcastle and Everton are all on five too.
Bournemouth, by contrast, are drifting towards the uncomfortable end of the table. Two points from three games leaves them level with Nottingham Forest, and only one point behind Aston Villa and Tottenham.
Fulham and Coventry City are propping up the table with no points after three rounds. Aston Villa and Tottenham are just above them with one each.
Seven matches in this round are being played at the same time on Saturday afternoon. Sunderland host Arsenal in the evening, and the Manchester derby closes out the weekend on Sunday.
Bournemouth are struggling to turn good spells into results 
Two points from three games: Bournemouth’s start to the season has fallen short. The club sit 15th after three matches.
Their only real satisfaction came away at Newcastle. The Cherries picked up a 2-2 draw against a side that normally has bigger things on its mind.
That result shows the attack can travel. Scoring twice at St James’ Park is Bournemouth’s best attacking return since the restart.
The issue lies elsewhere. From their first two matches, Bournemouth had collected just one point. They are still waiting for their first win of the season.
Newcastle, for their part, have not made much of their own start and sit on five points. So the third-round draw hurt the Magpies just as much as it helped the Cherries.
That makes the Vitality Stadium a match Bournemouth really should not waste. The fixture list is unlikely to hand them many better chances in the coming weeks.
The setup is clear: Bournemouth are facing a side that has conceded just once in its first two outings. They will need at least the same attacking output they produced at Newcastle if they want three points.
They showed at St James’ Park that they can stand up to a stronger opponent. Now they have to do it at home, and that has not happened yet this season.
A win would take the Cherries to five points, level with today’s visitors. In 90 minutes, the gap could be wiped out.

Brentford lean on their defence 
Fifth with five points, Brentford have made one of the best starts in the division. Only Manchester City, Arsenal, Hull City and Chelsea are above them.
The foundation is defensive. The club had conceded just one goal in their first two Premier League games.
That puts Brentford among the most reliable back lines in the division, still some way off Hull City’s spotless record.
Round three did slow the momentum, though. The home draw with Sunderland cost them two points in the chase for the top end of the table.
Even so, they remain right on Chelsea’s shoulder in fourth, with only one point between the sides before this fourth round.
Liverpool, Newcastle and Everton are also on the same five-point tally. The pack just below the top is already tight.
The trip to the south coast comes at a good time. Brentford are up against a team that has yet to win this season.
Their early-season solidity is the Bees’ main selling point away from home. Against an attack that has really clicked only once in three matches, that balance matters.
A win would keep the club in step with the top four. No side outside Chelsea has managed back-to-back wins since the season kicked off.

Bournemouth still have not won this season and have produced only one convincing attacking display, at Newcastle. Two points from three matches points to a lack of cutting edge, and that does not get fixed in a week.
A defence that is holding firm against an attack still searching for rhythm: the Bees leave the Vitality Stadium with at least a point.
