Fifteen podiums, no wins, and then Austria
Pedro Acosta claimed his first MotoGP victory this afternoon. The KTM rider won the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring, the track owned by his team’s sponsor.
The stat told the whole story of his frustration. Fifteen podiums in the premier class, zero wins. Nobody had ever been better at coming up short. The Murcia rider owned that unwanted record. Not anymore.
Acosta moved into the lead on lap nine of 28, getting past Jorge Martin. He never let it go after that, crossing the line first and finally wiping the slate clean.
He had crashed in Saturday’s sprint. Martin won that race. Twenty-four hours later, the script flipped.

Martin still holds the upper hand in the title race
Jorge Martin finished second on his Aprilia. Team-mate Marco Bezzecchi was all over him for the final five laps, but never found a way through. Bezzecchi completed the podium.
Martin still came out of Sunday in decent shape despite the defeat. He now leads Marc Marquez by 12 points and Bezzecchi by 42 in the riders’ standings. The Spaniard turned a difficult weekend into a solid points haul.
Ai Ogura took fourth for Trackhouse. Brad Binder, the other KTM in the field, finished sixth ahead of Francesco Bagnaia.
Marc Marquez leaves empty-handed
The reigning world champion came home fifth. Just 11 points. He is losing ground to Martin at a stage of the season when he can hardly afford to.
His brother Alex Marquez failed to finish, retiring the Gresini machine. Johann Zarco picked up six points with 10th place on his LCR. Fabio Quartararo ended up 17th on the Yamaha, out of the points, after a weekend to forget.
Fermin Aldeguer and Fabio Di Giannantonio complete the top 10 in eighth and ninth.
