One last game before the postseason starts
Phoenix wraps up its home schedule on Thursday against the Las Vegas Aces, the team it met in last year’s WNBA Finals. For the Mercury (16-27), the main aim is to finish with something positive before an early offseason.
The Arizona side is being driven by the return to form of Kahleah Copper, who dropped 31 points on Monday in the 87-86 win over Dallas, her first game back after an ankle injury. Alyssa Thomas also posted another triple-double that night, finishing with 15 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds.

Playoff seeding on the line for Las Vegas
The Aces (30-13), meanwhile, come in on a six-game winning streak. A seventh straight would lift them from third to second in the WNBA standings, as long as the Golden State Valkyries lose to the Los Angeles Sparks on the same night.
A’ja Wilson leads the Las Vegas offence with averages of 26 points and 9.4 rebounds per game, along with 2 blocks and 1.4 steals. She is coming off an 18-point, 10-rebound effort in the Aces’ 89-79 win over the Sparks.
Caution before the playoffs
“The health of my players is what matters most. We need to be in good shape and fresh,” Las Vegas coach Becky Hammon said, and she may well manage minutes with the playoffs approaching. On the Phoenix side, Kahleah Copper was keen to reset the mood: “A lot of people think we’re not playing for anything, but we are. I want to win. We’re setting the tone for who we are.”
