AC Milan vs Ferencváros: derby winners host the league phase’s Hungarian surprise
Mike Maignan won’t be in goal at San Siro on Thursday. He was sent off in the 27th minute at Bournemouth on 22 October for striking Tyler Adams, UEFA gave him a one-match ban, and Lorenzo Torriani is the likely replacement against Ferencváros. Kick-off is 17:45 UK time on 5 November.
Maignan says the gesture wasn’t intentional. It cost Milan anyway: Bournemouth scored twice from the penalty spot and once from an Adli free kick, and Milan lost 3-0.
That defeat left Ruben Amorim’s side on three points from three games. They lost 2-0 at home to Benfica on the opening night, then won 4-0 at Salzburg with a hat-trick from Alphadjo Cisse before the trip to the south coast.
Ferencváros are one of five sides with a perfect record. They won 3-1 at Celtic, beat Viktoria Plzeň 2-1 and beat Torreense 4-1 in Budapest, nine goals scored and three conceded. This is the first competitive meeting between the clubs.
Milan go into it on a high. They beat Inter 3-1 on Saturday, with Pulisic scoring after four minutes, Rabiot after ten and Diego Moreira from a free kick on 43. It was Inter’s first defeat of the season and Milan’s third straight league derby win.
I think Milan’s form at San Siro, not Ferencváros’s record, decides this one, even with a reserve goalkeeper.
AC Milan: three derby goals in 43 minutes, and a reserve keeper in Europe
The derby showed what Milan’s front line can do when it starts fast. Pulisic scored his fourth derby goal, Rabiot added the second and Moreira, signed from Strasbourg for €45m on 19 August, scored the third from a free kick before half-time. Bastoni’s goal on 22 minutes was all Inter managed.
Milan are fourth in Serie A with 21 points after ten games. Four days before the derby, though, Bologna won 4-2 at San Siro with a hat-trick from Mbangula. Along with the Benfica game, it’s one of two home defeats that show this side can be opened up.
Cisse is the story of the season. The 20-year-old arrived on a free from Catanzaro and has seven goals in ten games in all competitions, three of them in Salzburg. Gonçalo Ramos, bought from PSG for €74m in June, scored the fourth that night and started the derby.
The injury list is long. Tomori picked up a muscle problem against Bologna, Loftus-Cheek has a flexor strain, and Chukwueze, Gabbia and Estupiñán are also out. Gila, Pavlović and De Winter started the derby, so the centre of defence is covered.
Torriani’s inexperience is the risk. Maignan returns for the trip to Olympiacos on 26 November, and Amorim has one game to get through without him.

Ferencváros: nine European goals and a midfielder with three of them
Kristoffer Zachariassen is the man to watch. He scored before half-time at Celtic, then twice against Plzeň, the second a penalty on 81 minutes. He has three goals and an assist in the Europa League and is the club’s top scorer across all competitions.
Balázs Borbély took over in June, replacing Robbie Keane, and his side have kept attacking in Europe. Yusuf scored against Celtic and Torreense, and Arzani, Gómez and Lisztes have all found the net in the league phase.
The domestic picture is tighter. Ferencváros were fourth in the Hungarian top flight before Sunday’s game against Paks, on 17 points from ten games. They drew 1-1 with Nyíregyháza, Debrecen and Kisvárda in turn before beating MTK 5-0 on 25 October.
The defence is the weak spot away from home. Ferencváros have kept one clean sheet in their last ten Europa League away games, and the only time they won on the road this campaign, at Celtic, they still conceded.
Squad news is good: no injuries were reported last week and striker Lenny Joseph is back after two months out. Summer signings Ádám Nagy, Birmančević and Zohoré all started against Torreense.

Free Football Prediction: AC Milan vs Ferencváros
Our prediction: AC Milan -1.5 handicap (1.80)
Milan at 1.33 to win is too short, so I’d take the handicap and ask them to win by two. They scored three against Inter, four in Salzburg and two at Udinese in the last three weeks, and Ferencváros have kept one clean sheet in ten European away games.
The Hungarian side’s 100% record deserves respect, and Milan have already lost at home to Benfica and Bologna this season. Ferencváros, though, drew three league games in a row in September and October against Nyíregyháza, Debrecen and Kisvárda.
Cisse, Pulisic, Moreira and Rabiot give Milan four players who have scored in the last month. I expect Milan to win by two goals or more, even with Torriani in goal.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.
