Three homers and a Houston finish
The Astros blanked Seattle 7-0 on Tuesday night. Christian Walker got the party started with a three-run blast. Yordan Alvarez followed with a two-run shot. Isaac Paredes finished the job with a solo homer. Three swings, seven runs, and that was more than enough for Houston.
The win lifts the Astros to 78 victories and 79 defeats, tied with the Texas Rangers for first place in the AL West. Houston still holds the tiebreaker between the two sides, so if they finish dead level, it will be the Astros who take the division.

Five pitchers, four hits allowed
Texas’s bullpen gave Seattle nothing to work with. Five pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout. Miguel Ullola picked up his first major-league win: one inning, one hit allowed, two strikeouts. Cristian Javier, meanwhile, left early after two scoreless innings because of a groin issue.
At the other end, Logan Gilbert couldn’t hold firm. The Mariners right-hander, now 12-11 this season, gave up four runs on 10 hits in four innings. Seattle stranded nine runners and never came close to cashing in with men in scoring position. Julio Rodriguez had two hits, but he never really troubled the defence.
A late-season race that goes to the wire in the AL West
Seattle slips to 73-84 and its division hopes are fading fast. Houston, meanwhile, heads into the final stretch of the regular season with the better hand: win the remaining games and let the schedule do the rest. The AL West is set for a furious finish between two clubs that know each other inside out after years of hard-edged battles.
