FC Twente vs PSV Eindhoven: eight straight defeats, and that run has to end 
FC Twente have lost their last eight meetings with PSV Eindhoven. The numbers are brutal: 22 conceded, five scored.
That is the backdrop for the Tukkers as they host the league leaders on Sunday at 14:30 CET in round seven of the Eredivisie.
PSV moved top last weekend on goal difference, level on points with AZ Alkmaar. Twente sit fifth and can pull level with the front-runners if they win.
Both sides arrive in good form. Twente have not lost since opening day, while PSV are on a five-match winning run in the league.
PSV’s grip on first place is fragile and could slip this weekend if AZ and Feyenoord do their jobs. Peter Bosz has no room for error at De Grolsch Veste.
The fixture is easy enough to read: the country’s top attack goes to the team with the best defence. Twenty-two goals at one end, five conceded at the other.
A Twente win would lift them to 16 points, the same tally as PSV and AZ Alkmaar. The title race would suddenly look like a three-way scrap.
The market reflects the uncertainty, with PSV priced at 2.20 and Twente at 2.87. You do not often see a league leader handed that kind of price away from home.
Twente own the best defence in the Eredivisie 
Beaten on the opening day at Heerenveen in early August, John van den Brom’s side have taken 13 points from the next five league games. That haul has them up in fifth.
The key number in the run is defensive: five goals conceded all season, the best record in the Eredivisie.
At home, the form is even sharper, with three straight league wins. The latest, a controlled 2-0 against ADO Den Haag, underlined the strength of the back line.
Recent results show a side that knows how to win games, with 3-1 against PEC Zwolle, 4-1 at Cambuur, 2-2 at Groningen and 1-0 against Telstar.
Europe has shown another side of this team too. Beaten 1-0 at home by Qarabag, Twente then went to Azerbaijan and won the return leg 4-1, proof of a bit of steel that was not always there in the past.
The overall record is simple enough: one defeat in six league matches, plus four wins and a draw.
The 1-0 against Telstar and the 2-2 from Groningen tell the other story, the one about a side that grinds out points without blowing anyone away.
That is exactly the sort of edge Twente have needed to push into the top end of the table, and it is what makes them awkward opponents now.
Up front, Wout Weghorst has found his stride after a slow start in Enschede: three goals and one assist, the best return at the club.
Younes Taha and Sondre Orjasaeter follow with three goal contributions each, including two assists. This is not a one-man attack.
Van den Brom has almost a full squad available, with only Kristian Hlynsson and Stav Lemkin missing. The only real concern is the record against PSV: eight defeats in a row, seven of them in the league.
Home advantage remains their strongest card, in a ground where they have not conceded in their last three league matches.
The Weghorst, Taha, Orjasaeter trio also gives Van den Brom different options in the final third.

PSV score everywhere, but they do concede too 
PSV dropped two points on day one against Fortuna Sittard, pegged back in the 92nd minute. Since then, it has been five league wins and no slip-ups.
With 22 goals scored, Peter Bosz’s side have the best attack in the country, two ahead of Feyenoord.
The detail that matters for punters is in those five wins: PSV have scored and conceded in every single one. The defensive balance is still the weak spot.
Their attacking tempo more than makes up for it, with an average of well over three and a half goals per game so far this season.
No Dutch defence has found a proper answer to their movement over a full 90 minutes.
This season’s evidence speaks for itself: a 6-1 win at Utrecht, a 3-1 victory at Ajax and a 4-1 defeat of Sparta Rotterdam.
In that latest win, Sven Mijnans hit a hat-trick in place of Ricardo Pepi, while Esmir Bajraktarevic set up two goals in the absence of Ivan Perisic.
That depth was down to the European trip that came before it, a 1-1 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk in PSV’s Champions League opener.
Pepi, Perisic and Ruben van Bommel are expected to start. Bosz, though, must make do without Jerdy Schouten, who is out with a cruciate ligament injury, as well as Alassane Plea, Sam Lammers, Sami Ouaissa and Kiliann Sildillia.
The final point is geography. PSV have won their last three trips to Enschede, scoring eight and conceding two, with their only defeat there dating back to September 2022.

The return of Pepi, Perisic and Van Bommel gives Bosz back his first-choice attacking unit, the one that has already produced 22 goals and scores in every game.
The goals market backs that up, with over 2.5 goals priced at 1.28. Nobody is expecting a cagey afternoon at De Grolsch Veste.
Twente defend better than anyone, but they have not faced anything like this level all season. PSV should leave Enschede with all three points.
