Eintracht Frankfurt vs Freiburg: one goal conceded in three matchdays for the leaders 
SC Freiburg have won their opening three Bundesliga games while conceding just one goal. No other defence in the German top flight is anywhere near that number.

Eintracht Frankfurt have 4 points from one win, one draw and one defeat. The Hesse club have scored 7 and conceded 8 after three games.
That negative difference stands in sharp contrast to Freiburg’s +9. Five points already separate the sides after just three rounds.
Frankfurt’s matches have been full of goals since the restart. Their three games have produced 15 in total, an average of 5 per match.
Freiburg are operating on a different level, with 10 scored and 1 conceded. They pair the best attacking return near the top with the tightest back line in the division.
Last weekend both sides won, but in very different ways. Freiburg hammered Borussia Monchengladbach 5-0, while Frankfurt beat Mainz 3-1.
Freiburg sit level at the top with Borussia Dortmund, both on 9 points. Goal difference, +9 to +6, keeps the Baden side in front.
Frankfurt are five points back but still only a win away from the European spots. The Bundesliga table is still packed after three games.

Frankfurt have shipped 8 goals in three Bundesliga matches. Only Monchengladbach and Hamburg, both on 12, have done worse in the league.
Their season started with a 3-3 draw at Union Berlin on 29 August. Six goals, plenty of chaos, and both teams finding the net more than once.
The first home game of the campaign went badly. Augsburg left Deutsche Bank Park with a 4-1 win on 6 September, Frankfurt’s heaviest defeat of the season so far.
They bounced back away from home, scraping a 3-1 win at Mainz on 12 September. That result lifted the Hesse club back into the top half.
Going forward, the numbers are decent: 7 goals in three matches. Frankfurt have scored in every game and netted three times in two of them.
The problem is plainly at the back. Conceding 2.7 goals per game makes consistency almost impossible, no matter how lively the attack looks.
Their three opponents currently sit eighth, third and sixteenth. So the fixture list does not fully explain the eight goals against.
Even so, the win at Mainz showed a more controlled side. Frankfurt scored three times there for the second time this season.
The only home game so far brought four goals conceded. That is not the sort of precedent you want before hosting the most productive attack in the top four.

Freiburg: three wins, 10 goals scored and a back line that barely budges 
Freiburg have taken 9 points from 9 since the restart. The Baden club lead the Bundesliga ahead of Borussia Dortmund on goal difference.
The run began with a 4-1 win over Werder Bremen on 30 August. Four goals in their first home game set the tone for the campaign.
The next trip showed their steel. A 1-0 win at Paderborn on 5 September was the only match this season in which Freiburg’s attack stayed below two goals.
Then came the statement performance on 12 September, a 5-0 demolition of Borussia Monchengladbach. That remains the biggest Bundesliga scoreline of the season.
The real headline is the defence. One goal conceded in three matches, compared with eight for Saturday’s opponents.
Their only away game ended in a win and a clean sheet. There is no sign yet that Freiburg are vulnerable on the road.
Their attacking output has been more uneven, though. Nine of their 10 goals have come in the two home games.
There is a caveat, too. The three opponents they have faced so far sit tenth, fifteenth and seventeenth, which tempers the scale of the margins a little.
Freiburg have not yet played any side from the Bundesliga top five. Saturday’s trip is their first real test against a team from the top half.
