Deportivo La Coruna vs Sevilla FC: the promoted side still havent lost 
Deportivo La Coruna head into round six still unbeaten. Nine points from five matches, two wins, three draws, and sixth place in the table.
Sevilla are only a point better off, sitting fifth. Just one point separates the two sides before kick-off on Wednesday, 16 September at 19:00 Paris time, at the Estadio Abanca-Riazor.
After eight long years in the wilderness and promotion sealed thanks to second place in Segunda Division, Deportivo La Coruna are back in Primera Division at last. But for their return to the big time, the Galicians could hardly have picked a worse opponent: a Sevilla FC side they have not beaten in the top flight since January 2010.

The hoodoo hunt: Thirteen straight league meetings without defeat for Sevilla against Depor. It is a proper curse, and the promoted side will need to shake it off in front of their own fans.

Deportivo have picked up seven points from a possible nine across their last three league games. A 3-1 win over Valencia, a 3-2 success at Villarreal, then a 1-1 draw at Getafe.
The first two rounds were more laboured, with two 1-1 draws, against Elche and away to Malaga. Since then, the upward curve has been clear.
That 3-2 win at Villarreal remains the standout result so far. Beating a Champions League side away from home was never really in the script for a promoted team.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is dragging this attack along almost single-handedly. Five goals and two assists in five appearances, with a goal in every game since the restart.
The 37-year-old forward, signed in the summer 2026 window, is Antonio Hidalgo’s main weapon. His output alone explains a big chunk of the club’s nine points.
The coach could keep faith with the same starting XI, with Marc Casado and Jose Maria Gimenez set to keep their places. Yeremay Hernandez, who made an impact off the bench at Getafe, is pushing to replace Bil Nsongo.
The Galician club won the Spanish title in 1999-2000. That history still hangs over Riazor whenever a big team comes to town.
The opening run has looked kind on paper, with Elche, Malaga and Getafe on the schedule. But wins over Valencia and Villarreal show this side are not just picking up points against teams around them in the table.
Riazor has not seen Deportivo lose at home this season. It is where the Galicians put Valencia to the sword, their biggest win of the campaign.
The weak spot is obvious: three 1-1 draws in five matches. This team always gives something away.

Sevilla FC: ten points and a back line still leaking 
Sevilla have three wins, one draw and one defeat after five rounds. Nine goals scored, six conceded, and ten points on the board.
Sevilla come in off a late 1-0 win over Valencia, sealed by Juan Iglesias. Tight, tense, and a bit of a departure from the rest of their start to the season.
The other four matches have all seen both teams score: 2-1 against Rayo Vallecano, 3-1 at Bilbao, 1-3 against Atletico Madrid, and 1-1 at Espanyol.
The 3-1 win at San Mames remains the best performance of Luis Garcia Plaza’s side. Winning at Athletic Bilbao is more than just useful for the table.
That 1-3 home defeat to Atletico Madrid was a sharp reminder of the limits at the back for the Andalusians. Six goals conceded in five rounds is not the record of a locked-up defence.
Ruben Vargas is still out injured. Arouna Sangante is back in the squad after serving his suspension.
Garcia Plaza is expected to tweak his final third, with Robbie Ure and Chidera Ejuke in line for starts. Ivan Romero should keep his place.
Sevilla finished 13th last season and have not reached Champions League qualification since 2021-22. So ten points this early is already a clear step up.
The 1-0 win over Valencia was grabbed late by Juan Iglesias. So yes, they can dig out ugly wins when needed.
The trip to Riazor is a test of consistency for Luis Garcia Plaza. Sevilla have not lost to Deportivo in the Spanish top flight for 13 meetings.
