Three touchdowns, one quarter, then the bench
Beau Pribula threw three touchdown passes inside the opening quarter and No. 25 Virginia beat visiting Norfolk State 59-3 on Friday night in Charlottesville. He completed 12 of 14 attempts for 162 yards and sat out the entire second half.
Brandyn Hillman set the tone before the offence touched the ball properly. He intercepted Deljay Bailey on each of Norfolk State’s first two possessions. The first, a 50-yard return, handed Virginia a short field, and Pribula converted on fourth-and-2 with a six-yard throw to Jacquon Gibson. The second brought a 27-yard strike to Da’Shawn Martin. Gibson then turned a short pass into a 30-yard score and the Cavaliers led 21-0 with 3:12 still on the first-quarter clock.

A record falls on an extra point
Marco Peery kicked a 40-yard field goal with 4:05 left in the second quarter for the Spartans’ only points. Peyton Lewis ran in from three yards to make it 28-3 at the break.
Eli Holstein took over and threw touchdown passes of one yard to Ty’Lyric Coleman and five yards to Isaiah Robinson. Will Bettridge’s extra point after the Robinson score was his 333rd career point, moving him past Connor Hughes, who had held the Virginia scoring record since 2005.
Third-string quarterback Cole Geer added an 11-yard throw to Hayden Rollison in the fourth, Bettridge kicked a 30-yard field goal, and Justin Rowe returned an interception 50 yards to close the scoring.
Two programmes, 170 miles, first meeting
Bailey finished 15 of 25 for 142 yards with those two interceptions. Norfolk State were outgained 466-223 in what was the first meeting between schools separated by roughly 170 miles of Virginia road.
The Cavaliers move to 2-0 and are now 7-0 following a bye week under Tony Elliott. The FCS-level Spartans fall to 1-2 and to 2-13 under Michael Vick, in his second season as their head coach.
