Elversberg vs Bayern Munich : the newcomers have two more points than the champions 
Elversberg have six points from their first two Bundesliga games, while Bayern Munich have four. The Saarland newcomers are sitting above Germany’s most decorated club heading into round three.
Elversberg’s start has been the stuff of fairytales. A 3-2 win over Bayer Leverkusen in their first top-flight match, then a 4-3 victory at Mönchengladbach a week later.
Seven goals scored in two matches, five conceded: no side in the division has produced a bigger attacking return. Elversberg share the Bundesliga’s best attack with Augsburg.
Bayern, meanwhile, opened with a statement before stalling. A 5-1 thumping of Stuttgart, then a 0-0 draw at Schalke that cost them top spot.
That draw ended Schalke’s run of 12 straight defeats to the Bavarians. It also knocked Bayern off top spot for the first time in 67 matchdays.
Vincent Kompany left Harry Kane and Michael Olise on the bench at kick-off in Gelsenkirchen. A deliberate call, and one that did not pay off.
Kick-off is set for Sunday 13 September at 17:30. The most surprising promoted side in the division now host a Bayern team desperate to get moving again.

The 3-2 win over Leverkusen will go down as one of the best Bundesliga debuts in years. Lukas Petkov and Chem Campbell struck in quick succession in the 8th and 9th minutes.
Dylan Mokwa then put the game to bed straight after half-time, on 46 minutes. Leverkusen pulled two back through Patrik Schick and Christian Kofane, but never got level.
The trip to Mönchengladbach followed the same attacking script. Behind more than once, the Saarlanders came through 4-3 thanks to Mokwa, a brace from Maurice Krattenmacher and a goal from Fabian Keidel.
Krattenmacher scored the winner in the 90th+2 minute after already finding the net on 66 minutes. That kind of timing sums up a side that keeps going right to the end.
The downside is the five goals they have shipped in two matches. Elversberg are not exactly shutting teams out; they’re racing to the next goal.
The club have also backed it up in the German Cup, where they progressed after winning their opener comfortably. The momentum is there in every competition.
Hosting Bayern is still a different test altogether. Neither of Elversberg’s two wins came against a team with this kind of quality.

The 5-1 win at Stuttgart on opening weekend left no room for debate. Dayot Upamecano, Michael Olise, Aleksandar Pavlovic and Luis Diaz all scored, with Josha Vagnoman adding an own goal.
The Bavarians also hammered Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League in midweek, winning 4-0.
Their second league outing told a very different story. No goals at Schalke, despite dominating possession for long spells.
Vincent Kompany stood by the decision to start without Harry Kane or Michael Olise. Bayern never really found the answer after bringing them on.
At the back, the numbers are still excellent, with just one goal conceded in two league games. That’s the best defence in the division alongside Mainz.
So the five goals scored against Stuttgart still account for the whole of Bayern’s attacking output in the league. They need a spark up front.
The schedule does not help either. Bayern opened their European campaign in midweek against Bodø/Glimt, so managing legs here is tricky before a trip to Saarland.
The gap in class is still huge, league table or no league table. Dropping points twice in a row in the Bundesliga would be a real surprise for this group.

Our prediction: Bayern Munich to win and both teams to score
Elversberg have scored in both of their Bundesliga matches, and not just once: three against Leverkusen, four at Mönchengladbach. A side that has found the net seven times in two games is not likely to go quiet at home all of a sudden.
Bayern, for their part, are coming off a 5-1 win and a blunt 0-0, with an obvious need to get their attack firing again. Munich’s individual quality is still well above that of the promoted side, whose defence has already conceded five.
The most logical outcome is therefore a Bayern win in an open game. The play is Bayern to take the points with both teams on the scoresheet.
