Lorient vs Toulouse: two teams, two goals each after three rounds 
Lorient and Toulouse have scored exactly two goals each since the season kicked off. Three rounds, four goals between them: the numbers set the tone for the Moustoir clash straight away.
The table, though, tells a different story. Les Merlus sit eighth with four points, while Les Violets are down in 17th on just one.
Lorient are coming off their first win of the campaign, snatched at Bollaert thanks to Mamadou Koné. The young forward netted only his second goal in senior football.
Toulouse arrive in the opposite mood, on the back of two straight defeats at the Stadium. The latest came against Lille, with Ayase Ueda opening his account for his new club.
The recent head-to-head record looms large here. Toulouse are unbeaten in their last nine Ligue 1 meetings with Lorient, racking up four wins and five draws.
Lorient’s last top-flight win against Les Violets came in December 2015. Eleven years of getting nowhere against the same opponent tends to hang over a match build-up.
Kick-off is set for Saturday 12 September at 20:45 Paris time. Two blunt attacks meeting at the worst possible moment for both.
Lorient: solid at the back, blunt up front 
Four points from three games is a modest return for a club with European ambitions after finishing 10th last season. Alexandre Dujeux had bigger targets in mind.
The 1-0 win at Lens has at least changed the early-season mood. It was Lorient’s first victory of the campaign, built on a clean sheet.
The defence has been the real foundation. Two goals conceded in three matches is the best record in the top half of the table behind Monaco.
The imbalance is at the other end. With only two goals scored, only Nice have done worse in the league.
The departures of Bamba Dieng and Pablo Pagis last summer explain part of the problem, with both men carrying much of Lorient’s attack last season. Dujeux is now leaning on Mamadou Koné, already decisive in Pas-de-Calais.
The Moustoir has not exactly been a safe haven either. Lorient have lost their last three home league games, a run that started on 26 April.
In the treatment room, Bandiougou Fadiga remains out after picking up a hamstring injury late in the transfer window. Mohamed Bamba is also nursing a knock, trimming the attacking options even further.

Toulouse: one point, 17th place and an uncertain keeper 
One point from three games and 17th place: Toulouse have not started this badly since their Ligue 2 title season in 2022. Four straight mid-table campaigns had set a very different rhythm.
The numbers are ugly at both ends of the pitch. Two goals scored, five conceded, no wins.
Two straight home defeats at the Stadium are putting real pressure on Jens Berthel Askou. Losing to Lyon and then Lille on home turf leaves precious little wiggle room in September.
The transfer window did not quite deliver either. Mark McKenzie stayed after no move materialised, while Cristian Casseres signed a new deal and remains a key midfield anchor.
The big uncertainty this weekend is Guillaume Restes, who picked up a thigh problem against Lille. Losing your first-choice keeper before a trip away changes everything at the back.
Abu Francis is also a doubt with a hamstring issue. Two possible absences in key positions is a lot to handle for a side already looking fragile.
Then there is the historical angle, the one piece of the puzzle that does favour Les Violets. Nine straight Ligue 1 games unbeaten against Lorient gives Toulouse a grip that the table does not show.

Four goals between them in six league games: that tells the story. Neither side has found a way to score more than once a game.
Lorient have conceded only two and just kept a clean sheet at Bollaert, which naturally drags down the expected goal count. Toulouse, meanwhile, score in dribs and drabs and could turn up without their first-choice keeper, though even that may not be enough to open this up.
The five draws in the last nine meetings say much the same thing: these two cancel each other out. This one points below the 2.5-goal line.
