Seventy minutes of nothing, then a header
Austin FC did almost nothing for 70 minutes overnight. Then Zan Kolmanic swung a ball into the middle, Facundo Torres climbed above everybody and headed it inside the near post past a diving Nico Hansen, and the Verde had a point they had barely earned.
The 1-1 draw with the Colorado Rapids was the second time in five days that Austin have salvaged something late at home. Their unbeaten run now stands at five matches. The goal was Torres’ fourth of the season and his third in the last five games.

Aaronson’s opener came off the post
Colorado led from the 22nd minute and should have led by more. Darren Yapi’s shot was blocked by Guilherme Biro without being properly cleared, the Austin defence relaxed, and Paxten Aaronson arrived to put the rebound off the inside of the left post and over the line.
That finish ended a drought worth stating plainly. Colorado had not scored on the road since before the World Cup break, a run covering three away games and eight matches in all, and they had failed to take a single point from four road trips since the restart. The pattern had become rigid: win at home, lose away, four times running.
Two goalkeepers kept it at one apiece
Brad Stuver did most of the work in the Austin goal. He denied Youssef Maziz in the 10th minute, turned away Donavan Phillip in the 29th and again three minutes later, then produced the save of the night on Aaronson in the 77th. Without that one, Austin never get their chance at the other end.
Hansen answered him. Joseph Rosales burst into the box in the 64th minute and flicked a shot over the Colorado defence that the keeper pushed clear with his right hand, and three minutes later Hansen stopped Jorge Alastuey’s header.
Austin sit on 26 points from a record of 6-10-8. Colorado hold 32 from 10-12-2, and the away form that has shaped their season now has one point attached to it.
