Three picks flip the script
Josh Jobe picked off Drake Maye in the end zone with 21 seconds left. The Seahawks beat the Patriots 13-10 in Seattle, in a rematch of the last Super Bowl.
Seattle intercepted Maye on New England’s final three drives. The Patriots had led 10-0. They leave with nothing.
On the last drive, New England converted two fourth downs. Maye found Mack Hollins for 11 yards on fourth-and-9, just after the two-minute warning. The quarterback had already run for 5 yards on fourth-and-2 earlier in the drive. Andy Borregales had already nailed a 50-yard field goal in the game, and the Patriots were well within his range. They passed on the tie. The third-and-5 throw was too short. Jobe jumped the route in front of Hollins, a step inside the end zone.

Drew Lock keeps them afloat
Sam Darnold was out after five plays. Hip injury on a sack by Dre’Mont Jones. He did not return.
Drew Lock came on and did the job. Sixteen completions on 22 attempts, 187 yards, one touchdown. The backup had played only 38 snaps last season. Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught eight passes for 122 yards and a touchdown, including a short fourth-down grab he turned into a 45-yard run at 11:28 left.
Brian Fleury was calling the offense for the first time in his career. He was hired after Klint Kubiak left to become head coach of the Raiders.
The fourth quarter changed everything. Three interceptions, three sacks on Maye, who had barely been troubled in the first half. Nehemiah Pritchett grabbed a tipped ball intended for Romeo Doubs. Julian Love beat DeMario Douglas to the next one. Jason Myers added two field goals, including a 30-yarder in the third quarter.
A growing injury list for New England
Maye finished 23 completions on 33 attempts for 178 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. The Patriots also lost A.J. Brown, who went off with a right ankle injury on their first possession of the third quarter.
Seattle opens its title defense with a scrap of a win, without its starting quarterback and with a rookie offensive coordinator. New England heads home with regrets and two players to check on.
