RC Toulon vs Stade Rochelais : one point off the beaten champions, Saturday night’s main event 
A one-point swing at Jean-Dauger, and RC Toulon come out of the opening round with just one point in the table. Stade Rochelais, meanwhile, have gone and beaten the four-time French champions on their own patch.

Toulon sit eighth after a 27-26 defeat at Bayonne. The defensive bonus, snatched in the dying minutes, at least saved the Var club from leaving empty-handed.
La Rochelle are fifth after a 30-27 win over Stade Toulousain, sealed on Sunday 6 September at Marcel-Deflandre. The Rochelais turned it around after the break.
So both clubs head into this one in opposite moods: frustration on one side, confidence on the other. That mental edge matters just as much as the numbers.
Toulon are at home and can’t afford many more slip-ups if they don’t want to throw away six points in two games. The margin is already tight for a club aiming at the top end.
RC Toulon let a win slip through their hands 
Toulon went down 27-26 in Bayonne in their first match of the 2026-2027 season. Just one point separated the sides at the final whistle.
The defensive bonus came thanks to Rayan Rebbadj’s brace, which dragged the Var side back level in the closing stages. That fightback from a bad position is at least encouraging for Franck Azema.
The defeat also took a physical toll. Charles Ollivon went off on 50 minutes after taking a hit on the nose.
The club also reshuffled its leadership over the summer, with Gael Fickou and Lewis Ludlam taking over the armband from Baptiste Serin and Charles Ollivon. That change in the internal pecking order matters in a game of this size.
Eighth in the standings, Toulon are stuck in mid-table after just one outing. The schedule offers no breathing room with a fired-up opponent coming to town.
Mayol is still a place most teams dislike, especially under the lights. That is Toulon’s main card on Saturday.

Stade Rochelais brought down the four-time champions 
La Rochelle beat Stade Toulousain 30-27 on opening day. The coastal club produced the standout result of the opening weekend.
The game flipped after the interval, with the Rochelais hauling back a match that was getting away from them. Ronan O’Gara himself praised the side’s late grit.
The win carries extra weight because Ugo Mola had admitted before kick-off that Marcel-Deflandre rarely treats his team kindly. The numbers backed him up again.
Fifth in the table, La Rochelle have started the season in the best possible way. It also helps wipe away some of the doubts built up last season.
Now comes the real test: doing it away from home. Beating Toulouse at home means little if you then blow your first trip.
The Rochelais pack held firm against the champions, which is a solid sign before Mayol. That is where this one will be decided.
