ASM Clermont vs Stade Francais Paris : 36 points scored, but still no win for ASM
Clermont put 36 points on the board on the opening weekend of Top 14 and still came away with just one point in the standings. Stade Francais scored 28 and banked four.
The two clubs meet on Saturday 12 September at 16:35, as part of the afternoon multiplex. Canal+ and Canal+ Live will show the game.
ASM sit 11th after their 40-36 defeat in Lyon. A losing bonus point softened the blow after a dreadful opening 15 minutes on the road.
Stade Francais are sixth with four points after a 28-26 win over USA Perpignan. The Parisians held on despite a second half that went completely the other way.
So both sides arrive off wild games, with leads that kept shrinking as the minutes ticked by. Neither managed anything close to 80 minutes of control.
Clermont are at home and need to get their season moving at the Michelin, otherwise the gap starts to open up already. That is the first clear talking point in this one.
ASM Clermont made a mess of their start in Lyon
Clermont went down 40-36 on the LOU Rugby pitch. The final score hides a disastrous opening spell.
The Auvergnats were 20-0 down by the half-hour mark, after conceding the first Top 14 try of the season as early as the third minute. A mix-up from captain Baptiste Jauneau on his own line handed Lyon full-back Gabin Lorre the score.
The response came later, and it was a decent one. With eight minutes left, the two teams were level on tries at four apiece, with only eight points between them.
That comeback shows ASM have enough firepower to live with anyone. The problem is plainly the first 20 minutes.
The losing bonus point from Gerland is the only real positive from the trip. One point after one round leaves the club in the bottom half of the table.
The Michelin now has to be the place where they fix that slow start. A side that scores 36 points away from home is not far off the pace.
Try it for $0.99.
Stade Francais Paris got it done the hard way
Stade Francais beat USA Perpignan 28-26 in their opener. The Paris club took four points and sit sixth.
The first half was one-way traffic, with four tries to nil and a 28-6 lead at the break. The Parisians even finished the half with a man advantage.
The second half told a very different story, as Perpignan scored 20 points to close the gap to two. The Catalans even crossed for their first try in the 42nd minute while down a man.
That drop-off after the restart is the main warning sign for the Paris staff. Conceding 20 points in 40 minutes after looking in complete control raises questions about how they handle pressure.
The club has made no secret of its title ambitions this season, which makes that kind of lapse all the more expensive. The margins will be tighter at the Michelin than at Jean-Bouin.
Four points on day one is four points on day one, though, and Stade Francais head into this trip with no points pressure on their shoulders. Clermont can’t say the same.

Rugby prediction ASM Clermont vs Stade Francais Paris
Our prediction: Over 50 total points in the match
These teams’ opening fixtures produced 76 points at Gerland for Clermont, and 54 at Jean-Bouin for Stade Francais. Neither defence lasted the full 80.
Clermont scored four tries away from home and Paris scored four at home on the same weekend. Both attacks are finding answers, while both defensive lines are giving way in chunks.
The total should go beyond 50 points. This looks set to be an open, high-scoring match.
in your pocket.

Before anything else, a word on our free predictions
- What we publish on mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We are offering an opinion, a read on the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is still sport: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a goal from nowhere… and the whole script changes.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as risk-free betting. Even when something looks “obvious”, it never truly is. And yes, that means you can lose. In fact, at some point, you will.
- The sensible thing is to keep it under control. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Do not touch money you need to live. And above all: do not chase losses, because that rarely ends well.
- A bet should stay a game, not a job or a source of income. If you feel it is taking up too much space in your life, getting on your nerves or putting you under pressure, take a break. And if you need to, speak to a specialist support group. That is what they are there for.
- In the end, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, even with the best analysis in the world.
- Essential reminder: betting is forbidden to minors and must follow the law in your country. Gambling can quickly go off the rails, with money lost, family tension and addiction. Need Help? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. In the UK? Visit https://www.gambleaware.org/https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment from us
Our predictions are not a contract. They have no legal force. In plain English: you cannot use them to claim anything if a bet loses.
Information can change
A prediction is always based on what is known when it is written. But in the meantime, a team sheet changes (like ASM Clermont’s, for example), a player gets injured, the weather turns bad… and the analysis can quickly be out of date. We cannot be held responsible for that.
