Crystal Palace vs Ipswich Town: three points each, two leaky defences 
Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town are level after three rounds of Premier League action: three points apiece. Only goal difference separates the two clubs, sitting 14th and 13th in the table.

Seven days earlier, the Tractor Boys had already shipped five against Manchester United in a 5-2 defeat. Their last two outings have cost them seven goals.
The wider shape of the league is already becoming clear: Manchester City and Arsenal are on nine points, with the same +5 goal difference and City ahead on goals scored.
Hull City are the surprise package in third on seven points and without conceding a goal. Chelsea complete the top four on six points, ahead of Brentford and Liverpool.
That leaves Palace and Ipswich stuck in the sort of mid-table mess nobody wants to live in for long. Both clubs head into this one with the same blunt accounting need.
Seven matches from this fourth round are scheduled for the same time on Saturday afternoon. Sunderland host Arsenal in the evening, and Manchester United welcome Manchester City on Sunday.
The head-to-head record clearly favours the Eagles, with seven wins to Ipswich’s three and one draw. The difference on the day will come down largely to whether either back line can stand up to the pressure.

Eight goals conceded in three Premier League matches: Crystal Palace are among the loosest defences in the division. That figure alone explains the three points they have managed to collect.
The win at Craven Cottage still showed the attack can do damage. Three goals away at a direct rival is Palace’s best attacking return since the restart.
That 3-2 also matters in pure table terms. It drags Palace away from the bottom end and leaves Fulham on zero points after three games.
Even so, the match underlined Palace’s broader issue: two more goals conceded, even in a game they won. They still have not kept a clean sheet this season.
The club also lost a key figure on the right side during the window. Daniel Munoz joined Nottingham Forest on 31 August 2026 for 26 million euros, after three full seasons at Selhurst Park.
The Colombian brought drive down the flank and steady defensive work. His exit, confirmed just hours before the deadline, has left a gap that the defensive numbers show all too clearly.
Selhurst Park is still a ground where Palace can set the tempo, though. They now host a side that has conceded seven goals in two matches.
There is room to push on, provided they do not repeat the generosity shown in the first three rounds. A second win would lift the Eagles to six points, the same tally as fourth-placed Chelsea.
The next run of fixtures does not look any kinder for the London side. Beating a direct rival here is simply a must.

Ipswich Town are conceding too much to keep pace 
Three points from three matches and two straight defeats: Ipswich Town’s start has quickly gone downhill. The club sit 13th.
The 5-2 drubbing by Manchester United had already exposed a shaky back line. Conceding five in one game remains their worst defensive return of the season.
That match also gave a struggling opponent a springboard. Manchester United have not won since, following a 2-2 draw at Everton the next week.
The home defeat to Liverpool confirmed the trend in a different way. Alexander Isak scored twice in the opening nine minutes, and the game was over before half-time was even a real thought.
That 0-2 also handed Andoni Iraola his first league win in charge of the Reds. Ipswich ended up providing the release valve for a direct rival at the top end.
Seven goals shipped across the last two outings is the biggest number Ipswich have to sort out before Selhurst Park. Nothing sums up the Tractor Boys’ problem better.
The trip to London comes at a tricky time. The three points earned on opening weekend are still their only real positive this season.
Even so, the club are level on points with Sunderland and Crystal Palace, and just one behind Manchester United. The table has not hardened into shape yet.
Against a Palace side that have already scored three away from home, the defensive question is front and centre. Ipswich need to last longer than they did in their last two games.
