Borussia Mönchengladbach vs SV Elversberg: the promoted side rolls in with six goals from two matches 
Six goals in two official games and two wins from two. Elversberg head to Borussia-Park on Saturday 5 September at 3:30pm local time with the cheekiest start of the second round.
The Saarland club played the first Bundesliga match in its history on 29 August. It won 3-2 against Bayer Leverkusen.
At the same time, Mönchengladbach came back from Leipzig after a 3-0 hammering and no points on the board. Two very different runs collide right after the restart.
The German league table still says the Rhine club should be heavy favourites at home. Last weekend’s results tell a different story.
The two sides had not met since 2020, when Gladbach put five past the promoted side in the German Cup. This one feels like a completely different fixture.
Eugen Polanski knows full well the danger of a team that plays with no fear. His side needed nine league games to notch its first win last season.
Vincent Wagner, meanwhile, has a squad that scores freely and concedes just as easily. Their first two matches of the season have already produced 11 goals.
Gladbach have not lost at home in the league since January. Elversberg, on the other hand, have not won away since last season.
So this has all the makings of a banana skin for the Foals. It also looks like the night Elversberg find out the difference between front-foot football at home and life on the road.
Borussia Mönchengladbach: 10 shots in the box and still no goal 
Gladbach opened their Bundesliga season with a 3-0 defeat in Leipzig. The scoreline shows the defensive frailty, but it does not tell the whole story.
Polanski’s men created chances without ever finishing the job. Ten efforts from inside the box, no goals, and they even hit the woodwork.
The issue is not chance creation, it is the final touch. The club have scored one goal or fewer in six of their last eight matches in all competitions.
Three of those eight games ended without them scoring at all. Tim Kleindienst, the attacking focal point, is still waiting for his first goal in six league matches.
There is still some context to soften the Leipzig setback. Gladbach have won three of their last four official matches and two of their last three Bundesliga games.
Borussia-Park remains their real stronghold. The club finished the 2025-2026 campaign with seven straight home league games unbeaten, including four wins.
Last season, the Foals had to wait until Matchday 9 for their first Bundesliga victory. No one in the dressing room wants a repeat of that mess.
Polanski has almost a full squad available for this one. Full-back Jens Castrop and centre-back Leopold Querfeld are the only confirmed absentees before the Elversberg match.
The back line should read Joseph Scally, Ko Itakura, Kevin Diks and David Herold, shielded by Philipp Sander and Kevin Stoger. Up front, Kleindienst will look to profit from the service of Robin Hack and Franck Honorat.

SV Elversberg: two goals up after nine minutes against Leverkusen 
Elversberg did not just beat Leverkusen, they ran over them. The promoted side were two goals up after nine minutes.
It was still 3-0 when the Rhine side pulled one back in the final 15 minutes. The final 3-2 flatters the losers by a mile.
David Mokwa, Cole Campbell and Lukas Petkov all scored that day. The trio are expected to start again on Saturday.
The Saarland club have two wins from two official matches this season, with six goals scored. Their other victory was a 3-1 win at Duisburg on 22 August in the German Cup.
One figure takes the shine off that buzz. Elversberg have failed to keep a clean sheet in nine of their last 11 matches.
Away form is the other weak spot. Vincent Wagner’s side ended the 2025-2026 season without a win in their last five trips, losing two of them.
Their only away game this season came in Duisburg in the cup, against a side from a much lower level. Borussia-Park will be a far tougher test.
Wagner knows his side are walking a tightrope. The goals are covering for a defence that leaks almost every week.
In the treatment room, defender Luis Seifert and his ankle are the only confirmed absentees for Elversberg. Jan Gyamerah, Lukas Pinckert, Maximilian Rohr and Lasse Gunther should make up the back four.

Elversberg concede at almost every turn: nine of their last 11 matches have ended without a clean sheet. Gladbach will not need a masterpiece to find a way through.
The Foals had 10 shots from inside the box in Leipzig without scoring, which feels more like bad luck than a lack of openings. Against a promoted defence, the punishment should come.
At the other end, the newcomers have scored six times in two games and already have three different scorers from their only Bundesliga outing. A side that attacks with that kind of nerve is not going to sit in and hide at Borussia-Park.
