Cagliari vs Lecce: three points each, one goal conceded against four 
Three points apiece, one win, one loss. On paper, Cagliari and Lecce are riding in the same carriage after two Serie A matchdays. But look a little closer and the picture changes fast.
For Cagliari, the back line is wide open. The defence is creaking at the first sign of any real pace from the opposition. Lecce are the opposite: a packed, disciplined unit that shuts down the middle and gives up very little.
It is a straight clash of styles, and the Sardinians’ fragility could end up costing them against the visitors’ structure and discipline.

Cagliari boast one of Serie A’s best defensive records with just one goal conceded in two league games. Only the teams near the top are doing better on that front.
The home defeat to Inter hinged on one moment, with Hakan Calhanoglu striking after nine minutes from a Nicolo Barella assist. After that, the Sardinians shut the door.
The issue is at the other end. One goal in two games leaves Cagliari among the least productive attacks in the division.
Pisacane is expected to line up in a 4-3-2-1 with Caprile in goal. Ze Pedro and Obert would operate as the full-backs, with a slight doubt in the middle between Deiola and Yerry Mina.
The midfield should be built around Winks, flanked by Romano and Fazzini. That trio will need to supply the energy and volume the attack has not found yet.
Up front, Adopo and Daniel Maldini would support a lone striker still to be confirmed. Mendy is currently ahead of Kevin Carlos for that role on Monday night.
Their Coppa Italia tie does complicate the workload a touch. The Thursday night meeting with Hellas Verona leaves just four days to recover before Lecce arrive.
Still, the chance of a last-16 tie at Roma gives the group a lift. It is rare enough for Cagliari to reach 7 September with two live targets still in play.

Lecce: four goals conceded and a back three 
Lecce have conceded four goals in two Serie A matches, four times as many as Monday’s opponents. That total has been the main drag on their restart.
The two goals they have scored in the same period do not make up for it. The Apulians have their three points from one win in two outings.
That negative goal difference is already hurting them in the table. It leaves Lecce behind Cagliari on points level, and only three points clear of the relegation zone.
Di Francesco is leaning on a 3-5-2 with Wladimiro Falcone in goal. Tiago Gabriel, Gaspar and Siebert would form the back three.
The flanks would be handled by Diego Veiga on the right and Gallo on the left, with Ndaba still pushing him for that spot. Width is Lecce’s main attacking weapon.
Midfield is the most uncertain part of the setup. Ilic is battling Ngom, Gorter is fighting Maleh, and only Lameck Coulibaly looks certain to start.
That kind of indecision in the middle is not ideal in a five-man midfield. With two of the three central spots still open four days out, the pecking order is clearly not settled.
The forward pairing would see Pierotti alongside Stulic. How well they can get a foothold in the box at Cagliari will go a long way to deciding Lecce’s night.

The attack numbers do not really change the argument. Neither side scores much, which only increases the value of Cagliari’s defensive edge in a game likely to be decided by slim margins.
The call is made: Cagliari to edge it. A Sardinian attack that is still short on spark should find it easier to break through the most generous defence in this lower-half duel than Lecce will at the other end.
