Rangers vs Motherwell: an unbeaten side heads to Ibrox Stadium 
Rangers host Motherwell on Saturday, September 5 at 3:00pm local time, or 4:00pm in France, at Ibrox Stadium. Matchday six in the Scottish Premiership brings together two sides separated by just one point.
The Gers sit fifth with seven points from four games. Motherwell are third with eight from the same number of matches.
The difference is all about consistency: the Steelmen are still unbeaten in the league this season. Rangers, meanwhile, took a month to find their feet.
Celtic lead the race by five points from Derek McInnes’ men. Every point dropped at home only makes that gap harder to close.
The most recent meeting at Ibrox matters here: Motherwell won 3-2 there in April, thanks to an Emmanuel Longelo strike in the 90th minute. That was their third win in five recent trips to Glasgow’s east end.
Two very different runs collide on Saturday afternoon. Rangers need to back up their recovery. Motherwell need to keep a sequence going nobody saw coming.
Rangers have no European football left on the calendar after their penalty shootout exit to Jablonec. Motherwell are in the same boat after their failed two-legged tie against Freiburg.
So both sides can pour everything into the league. That changes the tone of a sixth-round fixture.
Rangers are finally breathing again after a month of crisis 
Rangers made a mess of their start under Derek McInnes, with no wins from their first four games. The Europa League qualifying exit was part of the package.
The new manager’s first win came in the Scottish League Cup, a 5-1 thumping of St Mirren. That was followed by a 1-0 win over Jablonec in the Conference League playoff first leg.
Then it all went sour: a 1-0 defeat in the return, then a 4-3 penalty shootout exit. Rangers will not play European football in 2026-2027.
The pressure eased with back-to-back league wins, 1-0 at Aberdeen and then 2-1 at Falkirk. Lawrence Shankland has scored the club’s last three goals on his own.
That reliance on the centre-forward is both a strength and a warning sign, because the attack looks blunt without him. The early-season numbers have backed that up week after week.
Tuur Rommens, Youssef Chermiti and Jose Cifuentes are out injured. McInnes will also watch from the stands, serving the second and final match of his ban.
The 2-1 home defeat to Hibernian remains the club’s only league loss. The 1-1 draw at Dundee United had already put them on the back foot.
Rangers have now taken six from the last six available after that rough opening. Those two wins both came away from home, at Aberdeen and Falkirk.

Motherwell boast the league’s best defensive run 
Motherwell are still unbeaten in the Scottish Premiership after four rounds, with two wins and two draws. Alfred Johansson, who arrived this summer to replace Jens Berthel Askou, has settled in quickly.
The club opened with a 2-1 win at Hibernian, then drew with Falkirk (0-0) and at St Mirren (3-3). Last week’s 3-0 dismissal of Dundee United got them moving again.
Their results outside the league tell a different story. Knocked out of the League Cup by Stenhousemuir in the second round, Motherwell then lost 7-2 on aggregate to Freiburg in the Conference League playoff.
That split can partly be explained by workload management: with no European games to juggle now, the squad looks fresher for league duty. The last two Premiership results back that up.
A trip to Glasgow does not exactly scare the Steelmen, who have won three of their last five visits to Ibrox. Emmanuel Longelo scored the decisive goal there in the spring.
Jordan McGhee, Callum Hendry and Paul McGinn will miss out, with all three expected back later this month. Johansson could name the same XI that beat Dundee United.
The 3-3 at St Mirren showed the other side of this team, able to score three and concede three. The 0-0 against Falkirk showed it can also shut a game down when needed.
That range of outcomes makes Motherwell hard to pin down. None of their four league matches has looked like the last.

Our prediction: Motherwell double chance or draw
Motherwell remain the only team near the top still unbeaten in the league after four rounds. That resilience has shown up at both Hibernian and St Mirren, two tricky away trips.
Ibrox does not scare them either, with three wins in their last five visits and that 3-2 smash-and-grab in April. Rangers, by contrast, are still leaning hard on Shankland’s goals and will have their manager stuck in the stands through suspension.
Take the double chance on Motherwell or the draw. The Steelmen have enough about them to leave Glasgow with at least a point in the bag.
Rangers also come into this off a home defeat to Hibernian and a draw at Dundee United in their other two league outings. Consistency still hasn’t arrived at Ibrox.
