Newcastle United vs AFC Bournemouth: unbeaten Magpies meet Cherries who keep getting stung late 
Newcastle United are still the only side in the top half of the table yet to taste defeat, along with Brentford and Leeds. Bournemouth, meanwhile, have picked up just one point from their first two games.

The Magpies sit sixth with four points, four goals scored and two conceded. The Cherries are 14th with two goals for and three against.
Bournemouth’s two games are worth a closer look, because the results do not tell the full story. They led in both matches before throwing it away late on.
Newcastle have taken the opposite route: held at home by Liverpool after a penalty deep into added time, then comfortable winners at Tottenham. The points tally could easily have been even better.
Anthony Elanga has emerged as the standout man of the early season with two goals in two games. He sits fifth in the league scoring chart.
Newcastle have scored four goals in two matches, twice Bournemouth’s total. The gap is widening at the back too.
So this one pits a side that cashes in when it is on top against another that cannot shut games down. That is the main angle heading into kick-off.

Newcastle started their league campaign with a 2-2 draw against Liverpool at St James’ Park in front of 52,630 fans. Anthony Elanga had opened the scoring in the 5th minute.
Joe Willock restored the lead in the 58th minute after Cody Gakpo had levelled it at 55. The Magpies held out until 90+8, when Dominik Szoboszlai converted a penalty.
Dropping two points like that hurts, but the response came seven days later in London. Newcastle won 2-0 at Tottenham in front of 61,025 spectators.
Elanga struck again in the 62nd minute before Yoane Wissa added the second in the 72nd. Both goals arrived in the third quarter of the game, which is becoming a bit of a trademark.
Across two matches, Newcastle have scored four and conceded only two, one of those from the spot at the death. Defensively, they have barely been troubled in open play.
Elanga’s two goals put him fifth in the league’s scoring race, one behind Bruno Fernandes. His pace in behind remains the key weapon in the setup.
The draw with Liverpool is the only point Newcastle have dropped so far, and that came from a penalty awarded in added time. They had led 2-1 for more than half an hour.
At Tottenham, they managed their lead perfectly and gave nothing away. That ability to see a game out is exactly what their visitors are missing right now.
Playing at 13:30 French time means a full house, high tempo and no hiding place from the first whistle. It suits this side just fine.

AFC Bournemouth: in front twice, with just one point to show for it 
Bournemouth opened their season at the Etihad Stadium and went ahead against Manchester City. Marcus Tavernier struck in the 26th minute in front of 60,645 spectators.
The Cherries held that lead for nearly an hour before finally cracking in the 85th minute to a Marc Guehi goal. Josko Gvardiol then wrapped up a 2-1 defeat in 90+2.
The same script played out in game two, at home to Everton in front of 11,135 fans. Alex Scott put them ahead in the 41st minute.
Bournemouth were still leading at 90 minutes, only for James Tarkowski to level it in 90+1. Two games, two leads thrown away in the dying moments.
The pattern is clear: of the five goals scored across those two matches, three came after the 85th minute, and none were Bournemouth’s. The issue is plainly in how they handle the closing stages.
With just two goals in two games, the attack also looks thin if they are hoping to trouble a top-six side. No player in the squad has yet scored more than once.
The 11,135 crowd against Everton is a reminder that Bournemouth play in a tight ground, nowhere near the scale of St James’ Park. This trip is going to be a serious test.
Marcus Tavernier and Alex Scott are the only Bournemouth scorers since the restart. Neither has managed a brace in a match.
Heading to St James’ Park with only one point puts the Cherries in chase mode. They will also need to survive the last 15 minutes, which has not exactly been their strong suit so far.

Newcastle are unbeaten and have conceded just one goal in open play since the start of the league season. The only other one against them came from a penalty converted in 90+8 against Liverpool.
Elanga has scored in both games, giving the Magpies a clear and reliable threat. Bournemouth, by contrast, do not have a single player on more than one goal.
The key point is game management: the Cherries surrendered their lead in the 85th minute at the Etihad Stadium and in 90+1 against Everton. Against a side that likes to strike in the third quarter, that sort of fragility usually gets punished.
