Udinese vs Venezia: Serie A’s third-placed side meets a side yet to score
Udinese sit third in Serie A after two rounds, with four points on the board. Venezia are bottom of the pile in 19th, with no points and no goals.
This Italian Cup round-of-16 tie is set for Wednesday 2 September at 18:00, at Bluenergy Stadium in Udine. The winner will face Atalanta in the next round.
Both clubs got through the last round, but in very different ways. Udinese did the job with a 1-0 win over Padua, thanks to a goal from Davis, while Venezia had to scrap for a 3-2 success against Modena.
The opening weeks of the league season have already highlighted the gap between these two teams. Four goals scored and three conceded for the Friulians, none scored and four conceded for the Venetians.
Venezia are also still adjusting to the pace of Serie A after promotion, and the fixture list has shown them no mercy. Lecce followed by AC Milan to start with, and no attacking answer either time.
A midweek cup match at 18:00 often brings rotation into the picture, which could tighten things up. Even so, the sporting pecking order is already pretty clear after the first two weeks.
Udinese: four points and an attack already paying its way
Udinese have taken four points from a possible six in Serie A, scoring four and conceding three. That leaves them third, just behind Milan and Juventus.
It started with a 1-1 draw against Como at Bluenergy Stadium, where the Friulians let two points slip. Since then, they have put it right.
The trip to Monza ended in victory, in a game where the black and whites’ attack made the difference. Three goals on that day alone, which was as many as Monza had managed across their whole season.
Their Italian Cup run began with a 1-0 win over Padua, Davis getting the only goal. Nothing flashy, nothing risky, exactly what the club wanted.
That record gives Udinese the only positive return among the four sides in this section of the draw. The prospect of a last-16 meeting with Atalanta adds real incentive.
Bluenergy Stadium is also a ground where Venezia are unlikely to find any attacking comfort. Against a team that has not yet really found its shooting boots this season, the margin looks healthy.
The table has Udinese ahead of Roma, Inter, Napoli and Lecce, all on three points but with a game in hand. Only Milan and Juventus, on six points, are above them.
Try it for $0.99.
Venezia: no goals in two Serie A matches
Venezia have failed to score in either of their first two Serie A matches. They have shipped four goals in that spell and sit 19th.
Their return to the top flight began at home to Lecce, where a 0-2 defeat set the tone. They never really found an attacking response in the final 30 minutes.
The trip to San Siro to face Milan changed nothing. Another defeat, another blank, this time against the league leaders.
The Italian Cup, though, is the one competition where Venezia’s attack has actually shown up. That 3-2 win over Modena in the previous round remains their only match this season with goals in it.
That split between cup and league form is worth noting before writing Venezia off completely. Against Serie A opposition, though, they have folded every time.
This is a game where there is no league table pressure, which could free a few players up. But finding the net has become a serious problem for the coach.
Venezia sit on the same bottom rung as Fiorentina, who are also on zero points after two matches. The difference lies at the back: seven conceded for the Tuscan side, four for the Venetians.
That does not alter the main issue for Venezia, which is at the other end of the pitch. A side that cannot score is not knocking out Serie A’s third-placed team away from home.

Football Prediction Udinese vs Venezia
Our prediction: Udinese to qualify
No goals in two Serie A matches: Venezia have not shown they can trouble an elite defence yet. Udinese have conceded three in the same spell, while scoring four.
The Friulians are at home, sitting on four points and with a last-16 clash against Atalanta in their sights. They have already handled this kind of night by seeing off Padua without conceding.
Udinese to book their place in the next round at Bluenergy Stadium.
in your pocket.

First, a word on our free predictions
- What we publish on mathodds is analysis, nothing more. We share an opinion, a read on the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport is what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a goal out of nowhere… and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no risk-free bet. Even when something looks obvious, it never really is. And yes, that means you can lose. At some point, you almost certainly will.
- The best approach is to stay sensible. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Do not touch money you need to live on. And above all, do not chase losses. That rarely ends well.
- A bet should stay a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts to take up too much space in your life, if it winds you up or puts you under pressure, take a break. And if you need to, speak to a specialist support service. That is what they are there for.
- In the end, the responsibility is yours. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never go away, even with the best analysis in the world.
- Essential reminder: betting is forbidden to minors and must follow the law in your country. Gambling can spiral fast (money losses, family tension, addiction). Need help? Gamblers Anonymous: 09 74 75 13 13 (local rate call) https://www.gambleaware.org/.
No commitment from us
Our predictions are not a contract. They have no legal force. In plain terms: you cannot rely on them to claim anything if a bet loses.
Information changes
A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But in the meantime, a team sheet changes (like Udinese’s, for example), a player gets injured, the weather turns ugly… and the analysis can quickly go stale. We cannot be held responsible for that.
Your responsibility
Before betting, simply check that it is legal where you are. If it is not, that is your responsibility, not ours.
