A parked car in a no-stopping zone, and everything that followed
The car should not have been there. Indianapolis officers noticed it sitting in a no-stopping zone early Sunday morning, walked over, and found Keenan Allen behind the wheel showing what they described as signs of intoxication. He was taken into custody shortly after.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department listed two initial charges: operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, and endangering others. Both are misdemeanors under Indiana law.
Indianapolis said little. “We are aware of the incident involving Keenan Allen last night,” the club offered. “We are gathering more information and have no further comment at this time.” That was it.

Twelve hours earlier he was on a football field
Allen had been in uniform against Detroit on Saturday. One catch, 24 yards, a 25-16 preseason loss, then a quiet exit from a game that meant nothing on the scoreboard.
He is 34. He signed a one-year deal with the Colts earlier this month, brought in to give a young receiver room some kind of veteran spine. Roster cuts land this week. The regular season starts days after that. Nobody in the building knows yet where he fits into either.
985 catches in San Diego, and a name still stuck in the Chargers record book
Cal produced him. The Chargers took him in the third round in 2013 and kept him for 11 seasons before shipping him to Chicago in March 2024. He came back last year, played all 17 games, and put up 81 catches for 777 yards and four scores.
Six Pro Bowls. Career totals of 1,055 receptions, 12,051 yards, 70 touchdowns. In Los Angeles he still owns the franchise catch record at 985, sits second in receiving yards behind Antonio Gates with 11,307, and ranks third in receiving touchdowns with 63, trailing Gates at 116 and Lance Alworth at 81. Both of those men have busts in Canton.
The league has its own disciplinary process, separate from whatever the courts decide. Neither has said anything yet.
