Pat Murphy has stopped trying to be original about it. His left fielder went deep again Saturday night, a third homer in three games, and the Brewers manager reached for the same vocabulary he has been using all summer.
The swing came in the first inning against Texas, moments after William Contreras had cleared the wall himself. Number 20 on the year for Jackson Chourio. Milwaukee won 5-3, a fourth straight, but the number that travels further than the box score is this one: three consecutive seasons of 20 or more home runs, all before his 23rd birthday. Seventeen players in the history of the sport have done that.
“And he’s still learning the game,” Murphy said. “This guy is special. His hands get from point A to point B as quick as anybody. The bat speed, the power, he’s got a real base underneath it. Best of all, he shows up every day smiling.”

Twenty games left and Texas is going backwards
Four straight losses. Two games behind Houston in the AL West, two behind Cleveland for the last wild card, and roughly 20 games to fix all of it.

Rocker vs May, two right-handers still looking for a rhythm

Dustin May (6-8, 4.56) makes his fifth start since coming over from St. Louis on August 3. His last one lasted exactly one pitch: A.J. Ewing lined it off his shoulder. He was back on a mound by Thursday. Against Texas he carries a 3.86 ERA over two career starts.
