Telstar vs Ajax: 52 years of waiting against a side that keeps leaking goals 
Telstar have not beaten Ajax since April 1974, a run of 13 meetings in all competitions without a single win. The last eight have all ended in defeat.
Kick-off is on Sunday at 16:45 local time at BUKO Stadion, with Eredivisie round four on the menu. Seven places separate the two clubs in a table that is still barely taking shape.
Ajax arrive from Switzerland, or more accurately from Thursday’s 5-3 win over Sion, which sent them into the league phase of the Conference League. Michel, the former Girona boss, has now won six and drawn two of his eight competitive matches.
That record hides a worrying defensive issue for a club of this size. Their only clean sheet this season came on matchday one, a 2-0 win at PEC Zwolle.
Since then, Ajax have conceded at least twice in four straight games: 2-2 against Shelbourne, 2-2 against Heerenveen, 4-2 in Sion and 5-3 in the return leg. The 13-match unbeaten run is being built on attack, not balance.
Telstar, meanwhile, are coming back from a 15-day break without a competitive match after their 3-1 home defeat to Sparta Rotterdam. Whether that helps the White Lions or kills their rhythm is the big question.
Ajax have four points from two games and cannot afford to drop more against a newly promoted side. But the two-legged tie with Sion will have left a physical mark.
Telstar, on three points, are sitting in the middle of the pack. The gap between these clubs is measured more in quality than in the table right now.
Telstar: a mixed start and a long layoff 
Telstar opened the season with a 2-1 win in Nijmegen, away at a Europa League participant. Three points from the off was more than they could have hoped for after surviving by the skin of their teeth last season.
The follow-up was much tougher, with a 3-1 home defeat to Sparta Rotterdam in mid-August. Two games, two very different stories, three points in the bag.
The club finished 14th last season, only a few places above an immediate return to the Eerste Divisie. Survival is still the only realistic target.
The dugout changed this summer after Anthony Correia left for FC Utrecht, with Henk Brugge coming in. The new boss has only managed two league matches so far.
Abdelnour Soualhia, on loan from AZ Alkmaar, has been the early bright spot, with one goal and one assist from centre-back. That sort of output is hard to keep up from a defender.
Gerald Alders has not played since the opening day and is not expected to face his parent club. Telstar will go into this one short of a defender and short of two weeks of match rhythm.
The Velsen-Zuid club are working with resources nowhere near Ajax’s level. Every point at home will matter in the survival fight.
Still, that win in Nijmegen showed they can punish a side that is off balance. Sunday will probably need the same kind of chaos.

Ajax: goals flying, defence shipping too many 
Ajax have scored at least twice in each of their last five matches, with results of 2-0, 2-2, 2-2, 4-2 and 5-3. The 36-time Dutch champions have made their choice under Michel: entertainment first.
Tolu Arokodare is the man in form right now. On loan from Wolverhampton, the striker hit a brace against Sion on Thursday after also scoring once and setting up a goal in the first leg a week earlier.
Abdellah Ouazane also netted twice in that 5-3 win. The pair should keep their places, with Steven Berghuis expected to operate on the other flank.
The two draws against Shelbourne and Heerenveen are a reminder that this side can unravel the moment the intensity drops. Nine goals conceded in the last four matches is not Ajax standard, and it shows.
Daley Blind, back at the club this summer, remains a doubt for Sunday. Rayane Bounida, Amourricho van Axel Dongen, who has a thigh problem, and Viktor Tsygankov are all set to miss out.
Squad management after a long European night will be key. Michel has enough depth, with Marcos Leonardo and Kasper Dolberg waiting in reserve up front, to rotate without losing too much firepower.
Marcos Leonardo and Kasper Dolberg are both waiting behind Arokodare, giving Michel three very different options through the middle. Few Dutch clubs can match that kind of attacking depth.
Qualifying for the Conference League league phase also eases the schedule in the weeks ahead. Ajax can work without an immediate do-or-die fixture hanging over them.

Our prediction: Ajax to win and both teams to score
Ajax have not kept a clean sheet in four matches and have conceded at least twice in each one. That leaves the door open for Telstar, who have scored in both of their league games so far.
At the other end, Arokodare and Ouazane both come in off braces against Sion, against a defence that already shipped three at home to Sparta Rotterdam. Ajax’s attacking edge is clear enough.
The bet makes sense: Ajax to win at BUKO Stadion, with Telstar nicking at least one goal.
The only real risk is that Ajax get a bit too neat and tidy after Thursday’s European effort. Even so, their defensive numbers make a tight, low-scoring game look highly unlikely.
