Milan away is the headline
Wearside got its answer earlier today. Sunderland will play Milan away in the Europa League league phase, the standout tie from a draw made in Monaco this afternoon.
The rest of the travel schedule takes them to Anderlecht, Lech Poznan and Torreense. At the Stadium of Light they welcome AZ Alkmaar, Dinamo Zagreb, Jagiellonia and Levski Sofia. Eight opponents, four at home, four away, nobody played twice.

Palace and Bournemouth get very different jobs
Crystal Palace host Real Sociedad, Sparta Praha, Lech Poznan and Hoffenheim. Their away list reads heavier: Lyon, Salzburg, Jagiellonia, and a night at Besiktas in Istanbul that nobody in south London will treat lightly.
Bournemouth drew Milan at home, along with Viktoria Plzen, Sturm Graz and Hapoel Beer-Sheva. They travel to Real Sociedad, Sparta Praha, Celta and Lillestrom. Milan land in England twice this autumn as a result, once on the south coast and once hosting Sunderland at San Siro.
Juventus are in the same competition, drawn to host Real Sociedad, Rennes, Omonia and NEC. Celtic face Benfica away and Marseille at home, about as awkward a pair as the pots could produce.
The format, and what lands next
Thirty-six clubs were split into four pots of nine by club coefficient. Each side pulled two opponents from every pot, one at home and one away. Sides from the same country could not meet, and no team faces more than two clubs from any single association.
Matchday one runs on 16 and 17 September. The rest follow on 15 and 22 October, 5 and 26 November, 10 December, then 21 and 28 January. Those eight games set a single 36-team table before the knockout rounds.
The full fixture list, with dates and kick-off times, arrives by Sunday 30 August at the latest. The destination is already fixed: Stadion Frankfurt hosts the final on 26 May 2027.
