Landreau does not hold back
“Everyone is fed up with him.” Mickael Landreau said that on national television on Friday night, about a player he coached.
The former France goalkeeper was a guest on Late Football Club on Canal+, and he went after Matteo Guendouzi without much padding around it.
Landreau knows the file. He managed Lorient from 2017 to 2019 and watched Guendouzi come through at Les Merlus before the move to Arsenal in 2018. He does not dispute the talent. Everything around the talent is what bothers him.
“Ever since he was young, he has been constantly looking for trouble. Honestly, he is impossible to manage,” he said. Then the verdict: “At every club he has been at, he has stayed one or two years. He has talent, but everyone is fed up with him.”

Four days after Lyon, the timing is brutal
Guendouzi was already taking heat after this week’s Champions League playoff against Lyon. His behaviour once the whistle went lit up social media for two straight days. Fenerbahce eliminated Lyon and took their place in the league phase.
Landreau widened the charge to the dressing room. A benched Guendouzi, in his reading, becomes a problem for the whole group: he stirs things up in training against his own team-mates, the former keeper said, before finishing with a flat “from a human point of view, it is complicated.”
The longevity question
The core of the argument is about staying power. Arsenal, Hertha Berlin, Marseille, Lazio. The midfielder keeps moving and never settles. “He has talent, but one year, two years, no more,” Landreau summed up on air.
He still has defenders, mind. The running volume and the aggression are rare commodities at this level. His spells at Marseille and Lazio both contained long stretches of genuinely high-level football, before the mood curdled.
Foot Mercato had already reported on Friday that sanctions were being weighed for Lyon, Fenerbahce and Guendouzi himself after the chaos of the playoff. The player has said nothing publicly to his former coach.
