The Colorado Rapids sent Dante Sealy back to CF Montreal on Friday in a deal worth up to $1.7 million in general allocation money.
The breakdown is simple: $400,000 in 2026, $1 million in 2027, and up to another $300,000 if the forward hits certain performance targets. For a player they picked up on a free only months ago, Colorado have done well out of this.

One goal in 23 games tells the whole story
Six assists alongside it, across all competitions since he arrived before the 2026 season. That line explains why the club were happy to move him on.
“We would like to thank Dante for his time at the club and wish him the best in the next stage of his career,” said Rapids president Padraig Smith.
At 23, Sealy has 11 goals and 8 assists in 88 MLS regular-season games, with 54 starts. Three clubs in that time: FC Dallas from 2020 to 2024, Montreal in 2025, then Colorado.
Montreal are betting on comfort, not fireworks
For the Quebec side, the pitch is that he knows the place. “Dante knows our environment, our culture and many members of our group, which will make his integration easier and allow him to contribute quickly to our goals,” said Luca Saputo, a CF Montreal executive. He added that the player’s attachment to the club and his desire to wear the shirt again carried weight.
Whether any of that changes the outcome is another matter. Sealy already did a season in Montreal, in 2025, and it did not set the league alight. He returns with another year of mileage in his legs and a failed stint behind him.
