A return trip nobody planned
Dante Sealy is a Montreal player again. The Colorado Rapids sent the forward back to CF Montreal on Friday in a deal worth up to $1.7 million in general allocation money, closing a Colorado spell that lasted barely half a season.
The structure of the deal says a lot about how much Montreal wanted him. Colorado banks $400,000 this year and another $1 million in 2027, with a further $300,000 tied to performance triggers. For a 23-year-old who arrived in Colorado only months ago, that is a serious piece of business.
Sealy’s numbers with the Rapids never quite matched the billing. One goal and six assists in 23 appearances across all competitions is respectable output for a wide forward, not a headline. Colorado decided the allocation money was worth more than the minutes.

Montreal get a player who already knows the room
“We want to thank Dante for his time with the club and wish him the best going forward in his career,” Rapids president Padraig Smith said.
Montreal’s pitch was continuity. “Dante is familiar with our environment, our culture and many of our group members, which will facilitate his integration and allow him to contribute quickly to our goals,” club executive Luca Saputo said. “Beyond his attachment to the club and his desire to return to defend our colors, we are convinced that he will bring real added value to our team, both on the pitch and in the dressing room.”
That familiarity is the whole point. Sealy played the 2025 season in Montreal before the move west, so there is no bedding-in period to budget for. He walks back into a squad he left less than a year ago.
Three clubs, 88 matches, still only 23
Sealy has now suited up for three MLS sides. FC Dallas developed him from 2020 to 2024, Montreal took him in 2025, Colorado had him for 2026, and Montreal have him again. Across those stops he has 11 goals and eight assists in 88 regular-season matches, 54 of them starts.
Plenty of players reach 88 MLS appearances at 23 and stall there. Sealy keeps getting bought. Whether Montreal turn that into end product is the question the closing weeks of the season will answer.
