Lille vs PSG: two points apart after just one round of Ligue 1 
LOSC have three points, Paris Saint-Germain have one. One matchday was enough to create that gap at the top.
Lille won 2-0 at Angers on Sunday 23 August. On the same day, Paris dropped two points at Rennes in a 2-2 draw.
The game kicks off on Friday 28 August at 20h45 at Stade Pierre-Mauroy, opening the second round. It is the first big fixture of the weekend, with third facing eighth.
Davide Ancelotti has been in charge of LOSC since 1 June 2026, after the split with Bruno Genesio was confirmed on 25 May. His first league game in charge ended in a win and a clean sheet.
Paris Saint-Germain arrive as five-time defending champions of France. They also arrive after an opening display that raised more questions than answers.
Luis Enrique took Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia off during the game at Roazhon Park. Rennes midfielder Adrien Thomasson admitted afterwards that the double change caught him off guard.
The opening-day numbers set the scene: Lille have a goal difference of +2, Paris sit at 0. The story is simple enough — a LOSC side already up and running against a champion still trying to find its rhythm.

LOSC scored twice and conceded none in their first outing. That leaves them with the third-best goal difference in the division after one round.
Olivier Giroud opened the scoring in the 11th minute at Angers, set up by Nabil Bentaleb. The striker is 39 and had only just returned from injury.
His low strike from outside the box, after a high turnover, left Anthony Lopes with no chance. Tiago Santos made it 2-0 in the 31st minute, and the contest was done before the hour mark.
That ability to kill games early is Lille’s strongest card before PSG arrive. It comes from an aggressive press and ruthless finishing when chances appear.
Even so, the money side of things still hangs over the start of the season. Ayyoub Bouaddi was sold to Manchester City on Sunday 23 August in a deal that could rise to 100 million euros with add-ons, an all-time club record.
That same weekend, Lille completed the signing of Paraguayan goalkeeper Orlando Gill from San Lorenzo for a fee reported at 3.8 million euros. The club also turned down a 35 million offer from RB Leipzig for Matias Fernandez-Pardo, and are said to want 70.
With one week left in the transfer window, Davide Ancelotti is still missing a right winger. The main target is Sami Ouaissa of NEC Nijmegen.
That is the key point here: Lille have a competitive side and a striker in form, but the group is still being tweaked just days before a game of this size.

PSG: two goals conceded early and a late rescue 
Paris were two goals down before the 40th minute in Rennes. Sebastien Szymanski struck in the 9th minute, then Esteban Lepaul made it worse in the 38th.
Ferran Torres flipped the script in 11 minutes, scoring in the 71st and again in the 82nd. Without that burst, PSG would have gone home from Brittany empty-handed.
That tells you two things. Paris were breached twice before half-time, and the attack needed an hour to wake up.
Luis Enrique reacted during the match by taking off Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. It worked on the scoreboard, because the point came after those changes.
The mood inside the club is worth noting too: on 24 August, it emerged that Luis Enrique had punished Senny Mayulu. PSG are tightening the screws already, and it is barely the second week of the season.
Ferran Torres is now the main man to watch for the trip north. He has scored both of PSG’s goals this season and was the only player to beat Brice Samba.
One point after one game leaves them eighth in the table. For a club chasing a sixth straight title, that is nowhere near the usual standard.
The warning signs are obvious: a side that is already shipping early goals is heading to Stade Pierre-Mauroy to face a team that likes to strike fast.

Both sides found the net in the opening round, and neither was shut out in attack. Lille scored twice at Angers, Paris twice at Rennes.
Paris’ defence was breached twice in a single half at Roazhon Park, which gives Lille’s attack real credibility, with Giroud already on the scoresheet. At the other end, Ferran Torres showed he can break down a packed defence late on.
So the bet is backed by the opening performances: a Lille attack that starts quickly, and a PSG defence that has already cracked twice. Both teams to score.
