Stretchered off on the opening kickoff
The Patriots and Eagles preseason game was about four seconds old. Ja’Quinden Jackson came down the field on the opening kickoff, went in for the tackle, and appeared to catch a knee flush to the head.
He did not move. Philadelphia’s medical staff strapped the running back to a backboard on the Gillette Stadium turf, carted him off on a stretcher and loaded him into an ambulance bound for hospital. The Eagles put out word overnight that he had regained strength and movement in all four limbs.

“His scan came back negative”
Damien Butler, Jackson’s agent at CMV Sports, gave the update through a statement relayed by The Athletic. “I just spoke to Ja’Quinden. He’s awake, he has full use of all four limbs, and his scan came back negative.”
Butler thanked the Eagles’ medical staff and the emergency responders “who moved quickly and took excellent care of Ja’Quinden in those critical moments.” He also said Jackson wants back at training camp as soon as he is allowed.
Ambulance exits are still uncommon in the NFL. The response protocols rewritten after Damar Hamlin’s cardiac arrest in January 2023 are the reason the medical team was on him within seconds.
Thirteen days on the roster
Jackson signed in Philadelphia on 10 August, three months after Jacksonville cut him loose in May.
He went undrafted in 2025, caught on with the Jaguars, and spent the entire year on the practice squad. Before that he had played twelve games at Utah between 2022 and 2023 before transferring to Arkansas, where he ran for 790 yards and 15 touchdowns on 149 carries.
Preseason was the whole audition. It lasted one snap.
