MLB: Arozarena walks it off as Mariners edge Cubs 5-4

First pitch of the game, last swing of the game

Randy Arozarena took the very first pitch of the night over the wall. Eight innings later, two outs in the bottom of the ninth, he did it again and Seattle had a 5-4 win over the Cubs.

He also took one away in the middle of it. Third inning, Miguel Amaya hit a ball that had the seats written all over it, and the Cuban outfielder got to the wall in time to bring it back.

The walk-off scored two. Seattle had coughed up the lead an inning earlier and it looked like one of those nights.

Kade Anderson gets a debut he’d almost written off

The swing also lifted a loss off the rookie’s record. Anderson was making his first big league start, fifteen months after Seattle took him third overall.

Five and two thirds, five hits, three runs. For a debut, that will do.

The sixth is where it turned. Alex Bregman and Michael Busch went back-to-back, Chicago led 3-2, and Anderson was pulled shortly after with the L sitting on his shoulder.

Peterson’s return wasted

David Peterson was back in the Cubs rotation and gave them what they wanted, two runs on four hits from the left side.

None of it mattered by the ninth. One pitch in the wrong spot and Chicago flew home from Seattle with nothing.

Arozarena came over from Tampa Bay at the 2024 deadline. Seattle wanted a bat that shows up when the game is on the line, and they got a fairly direct reminder of it here.
