A goal nobody wanted to score
22nd minute. Free kick 25 yards out on the right, after Yevhen Cheberko picked up a yellow card. Youssef Maziz swings the ball into the box.
Jeremy Ebobisse cuts across the six-yard area to clear it. The ball bounces off him and rolls in at the far post.
That was that. Colorado Rapids beat LAFC 1-0 in Commerce City on the night without even needing to hit the target themselves.
Try it for $0.99.
Carter stopped everything except that
LAFC keeper Cabral Carter hardly disgraced himself. Five saves. And a penalty stopped in the 40th minute.
Rafael Navarro had worked his way into the area when Nkosi Tafari brought him down: yellow card and penalty. Navarro waited. Carter dived left and pushed the effort wide.
Before that, Carter had already tipped away a Maziz attempt from a tight angle in the 8th minute. The rebound dropped to Navarro at the far post, but nothing came of it.
Two saves were all Hansen needed
Youssef Maziz was making his first MLS start. He kept at it through the opening half.
At the other end, Nico Hansen had only two saves to make. Both mattered. A Tyler Boyd effort in the 25th minute. Then a Jacob Shaffelburg strike that was heading for the top corner, turned behind for a corner. Shaffelburg hit the post again in the 57th. Son Heung-Min saw a long-range effort held comfortably just before the end.
Hansen now has five clean sheets this season.
Colorado move on to 28 points (9-10-1). LAFC stay above them in the table with 34 points (10-7-4), but head back from Colorado with only two shots on target. The Rapids managed four.
