Five years for the Costa Rican
Racing Club de Strasbourg Alsace confirmed Jeyland Mitchell’s arrival on Wednesday morning. The 21-year-old Costa Rica international comes in from SK Sturm Graz on a contract running to 2031, a full five years. No fee was disclosed by the club, though the deal is understood to sit around 8 million euros.
The contract length tells you what this is. Strasbourg have not grabbed a body to plug a hole in the final days of the window. The RCSA are buying an asset they expect to sell on in two or three seasons, exactly as they have with a string of young players lately.

Nine games for Feyenoord, seven in the Champions League
Mitchell was born in Limon in 2004 and came up through Guanacasteca, Municipal Liberia and then Alajuelense. Feyenoord brought him to Europe in the summer of 2024. He played nine times for the Dutch club and seven of those were Champions League nights, which is a strange, lopsided little record for a defender that age.
Austria is where it clicked. On loan at Sturm Graz for 2025-2026 he racked up 32 appearances across all competitions, seven in the Europa League. A proper season as a starter, the thing he had been chasing since he left home.
A back line rebuilt in a fortnight
Twenty-five caps and two goals for Costa Rica already, plus minutes at the 2024 Copa America. Numbers like that at 21 mean a national team manager settled on him a long time ago.
He lands hours after Karim Coulibaly, signed the same morning. Strasbourg are stockpiling defenders in a summer that also sent Diego Moreira to AC Milan, and it all runs to the same BlueCo blueprint: young, quick, resellable.
