Dortmund, Arsenal, Milan, now Le Mans
Le Mans FC confirmed Raul Torrente’s arrival this morning. The 24-year-old Spanish centre-back comes in on loan with an option to buy from Dinamo Zagreb, having been in town since Monday sorting out the last details.
He is not stepping up from nowhere. Torrente locked down a starting berth with the Croatian champions almost immediately, then spent his Champions League nights against Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal and AC Milan. Promoted clubs do not usually sign defenders with that stamped in their passport.

Seventh in, and the window is not shut
The club statement is blunt about what they bought. Left-footed, 1.93m, aggressive in the duel, comfortable with the ball. Patrick Videira gets a defender who has played in front of 60,000 people and did not fold.
Torrente is signing number seven this summer. Billal Brahimi, Louis Mafouta, Rayan Bamba, Daouda Traore, Yasser Larouci and Djibril Sidibe came first. Sidibe, a world champion in 2018, generated the noise earlier in the week. Torrente answers a less glamorous problem, and a more pressing one.
A promoted side hedging its bets
Le Mans are back in Ligue 1 with a squad that needed tearing down and rebuilding. Seven arrivals in a handful of weeks says the rest. Structuring the Torrente deal as a loan with an option keeps the exposure manageable if the season goes badly.
Dinamo Zagreb keep their leverage. They are happy to park a first-team defender elsewhere for a year if it means he plays. Le Mans get a 24-year-old who already knows what a high-pressure match feels like, which will matter for a team set to spend long stretches without the ball.
Whether he adapts to the tempo of the French league is the part nobody can sign for him.
