He had just lost. He still answered the question
Luis Enrique was fresh off a defeat. PSG had just let the Trophee des Champions slip away against Lens on Sunday night. Asked about the Blood and Gold’s chances of going all the way in France, the Spaniard could have dodged it.
He didn’t.
“If you look at what they did last season, they’ll be a tough opponent,” he said in his press conference. No fake humility, no little dig either.

Five names, and Lens was not the only one
The Paris coach did not stop at Sunday’s winners. “Monaco, OM, Lyon, Lille and all the teams up there. It’s a tough league, with teams that are improving. You have to perform to win this championship.”
Five clubs named. No favourite singled out. The point was really about the general standard in the league, which he says is rising year after year.
It is also a way of setting the scene. PSG remain the team everyone is chasing in Ligue 1, and their manager knows that a single season without the domestic title would be picked apart for months.
Lens have no intention of stopping there
The only question now is whether Luis Enrique’s words were a nod to reality or just the usual after-match courtesy. Lens spent last season springing surprises. The Artois club has just added another trophy against the reigning champions.
Ligue 1 returns this weekend. The answers will come soon enough.
