Five swings, five bombs

Seattle went to Los Angeles and turned the ballpark into a home run derby. The Mariners hit five of them Tuesday night and walked out with a 7-6 win over the Dodgers, their first against this opponent in 12 tries dating back to 2021.

Dominic Canzone did the heavy lifting. He tied the game in the sixth, then dropped a two-run shot in the eighth off Alex Vesia to put Seattle ahead for good. Two swings from one bat flipped a tight night.

Ohtani kept it close

Shohei Ohtani refused to let it slide. He opened the scoring with a leadoff homer in the first, his 10th game-opening blast of the season, added an RBI single, and later doubled home a run in the ninth to make it 7-6.

He reached third with nobody out in that final frame. Andres Munoz shut the door anyway, stranding him there for his 19th save. Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodriguez and Rob Refsnyder supplied the other Seattle homers.

What it means

Luis Castillo gave up 11 hits and five runs but hung around five innings. Jose A. Ferrer picked up the win with a clean frame. For a Mariners team that had owned nothing but losses against Los Angeles for four years, the streak finally cracked.
