A record on the opening night
Anna Moesch didn’t wait around. The 20-year-old opened the US Championships by winning the 100m freestyle in 51.88 seconds overnight in Irvine, California, erasing her own national mark of 51.93 set in London two months back. It doubles as a championship record, clipping the 52.04 Torri Huske swam last year. Rylee Erisman touched second in 52.92, Liberty Clark third in 52.97.

Dressel finds the top step again
Caeleb Dressel won the men’s 100m freestyle in 47.70. For the nine-time Olympic champion, it was a first individual title in two years. Brooks Curry (47.81) and Patrick Sammon (47.87) chased him home. “I hadn’t seen a 1 next to my name in a long time, so it feels good,” Dressel told NBC Sports. Luca Urlando, meanwhile, ran away with the 200m butterfly in 1:54.45, his first swim in the event since taking the 2025 world title.
Plenty of racing left
Moesch traced the win back to a winter of tinkering. “I changed a lot of things in every part of my stroke, my kick, my turns, my start,” she said. The meet runs through Saturday in Irvine.
