Top of the Eastern Conference heading into this latest round, Nashville SC are back at Geodis Park looking to tighten their grip on first place. Solid before the break, then winners over Atlanta straight after the restart, BJ Callaghan’s men look to have kept the momentum rolling.
Across the pitch, CF Montreal are trying to stay in the hunt for the playoff places despite a patchy season. The Canadians are unbeaten in their last two, but their away form remains a real drag on their hopes.
Nashville have been a force at home 
Nashville are having a season of serious quality and it starts at the back. With just 11 goals conceded all campaign, the Boys in Gold boast the best defence in MLS, while still doing enough going forward to usually get the job done.
At home, BJ Callaghan’s side are still unbeaten this season with seven wins and one draw. They are also on a four-game winning streak in the league and could set a new club record if they make it five in a row.
Sam Surridge continues to lead the line for Nashville. The English striker has scored nine times this season and keeps finding the net in front of his own fans, with Hany Mukhtar still pulling the strings behind him and causing all sorts of problems.
Montreal struggle on the road 
CF Montreal have shown some signs of improvement over the past few weeks, but life on the road is still giving them plenty of problems. The Quebec side have won just one of their eight away games this season and are now five straight trips without a victory away from Stade Saputo.
The defence is still the visitors’ biggest weakness. Montreal have shipped at least three goals in six away matches this season, which goes a long way to explaining why they sit in mid-table in the Eastern Conference despite some decent attacking talent.
The return of Prince Owusu is a big boost, though. With nine goals to his name, the German centre-forward is the visitors’ main attacking threat and will be expected to make the most of any scraps Nashville leave behind.

Nashville are the obvious favourites given the season they are having and their excellent home record. The Boys in Gold should take the initiative, but Montreal have enough about them to avoid a heavy defeat. The visitors have looked a little stronger in recent outings and get a major boost with Prince Owusu back in attack.
Even if the Canadians still struggle away from home, they can stay in games when the tempo drops and the match gets tighter. Nashville usually win through control and defensive discipline rather than by blowing teams away, which tends to keep the scoreline respectable.
Under those circumstances, the +1,5 handicap in favour of CF Montreal looks a decent play. The visitors should be able to keep things close, even if Nashville still have a good chance of taking all three points.
