Toronto are still finding their feet in the WNBA, and now they welcome the Las Vegas Aces, one of the Western Conference’s most ambitious teams. The Canadians come in on the back of a run of disappointing results and will need to raise their level if they are going to live with a side this experienced. The Aces, meanwhile, are looking to bounce back after a heavy loss to Indiana and have a prime chance to get moving again.

Beyond the team result, this one could be all about A’ja Wilson. The MVP keeps rolling out elite performances, and she now faces a Toronto side whose issues in the paint look tailor-made for her strengths.

Toronto struggle inside

The Tempo have lost four of their last five and still can’t find any real consistency. Their latest outing against Atlanta, a 111-92 defeat, exposed the same defensive problems yet again, with Toronto too often letting opponents dictate the pace.

Toronto are scoring close to 88 points per game, but they are giving up more than 91 on the season. The damage is especially obvious in the paint, where the Canadians are allowing too many second-chance looks and struggling to control the glass.

The numbers back that up too. In their last four games, Toronto’s players have pulled down just 4, 3, 0 and then 4 offensive rebounds. That lack of punch under the basket regularly leaves their frontcourt exposed.

Wilson remains the Aces standard

Las Vegas remain one of the league’s most reliable teams despite the setback against Indiana. The Aces have picked up six wins in their last 10 games and still boast one of the deepest rosters in the WNBA.

A’ja Wilson is still the driving force. Since returning from injury, her minutes have been managed carefully, but her production has hardly dipped. Even with roughly 25 minutes on the floor, she is still putting up numbers that belong with the league’s best.

Her last four games say it all: 20 points and 12 rebounds, 21 points and 15 rebounds, 32 points and 10 rebounds, then 30 points and 15 rebounds. Every time, she’s delivered a double-double, even when the game was already running away from the Aces.
