Panthers vs Broncos: Penrith aim to prove they are still the team to beat 
The run-in to the finals is officially on, and this one between the Panthers and the Broncos could already carry real weight in the race for the Top 8.
The Panthers get their internationals back after State of Origin, while the Broncos are running out of room for error. Another defeat would seriously dent their finals hopes, while Penrith are looking to tighten their grip on top spot before the season enters its final stretch.
Two ambitious teams. Two very different trajectories.
The Panthers are back near full strength 
The bye came at exactly the right time for Penrith.
Before their break, Ivan Cleary’s side handled the Rabbitohs with ease, winning 36-14 despite several State of Origin absences. It was yet another reminder of the Panthers’ depth, with the standards staying high no matter who is in the line-up.
The return of Nathan Cleary, Isaah Yeo and Liam Martin changes the picture again. Cleary is still the conductor, Yeo brings intelligence to the pack and Martin adds the edge that helps Penrith wear teams down.
The machine looks well and truly oiled heading towards the finals. The Panthers control tempo, usually win the field-position battle and can turn the screw once gaps appear. With almost everyone back and confidence sky-high, they come into this in ideal shape.
The Broncos are under the pump 
At Brisbane, time is starting to run out.
The loss to the Sharks stretched a worrying run of eight straight defeats and the Broncos are watching the Top 8 slip further away. Injuries and representative absences have played their part, but they no longer explain away the problems on the field.
The returns of Reece Walsh, Adam Reynolds and Payne Haas are obviously major boosts. Those three can change the look of a team with their class and experience.
But getting stars back does not solve the collective issues overnight. Brisbane still lack consistency in attack, struggle to keep the pressure on for 80 minutes and look fragile when the tempo rises.
Against Penrith, even a small lapse could be punished straight away.
The Panthers appear to have all the answers
This is a side that is getting its key men back against one that is simply trying to stop the slide.
Penrith arrive with more certainty, better structure and a squad that is close to full strength. Brisbane have enough talent to be dangerous, but they will need their best performance in weeks to knock over the leaders.
At home, the Panthers look well placed to keep building momentum.
