The Michigan club is back home after a bruising trip to New York. For this return to Comerica Park, the Detroit Tigers are set to lock horns with Canadian visitors who have just come through a draining stretch of their own. A fireworks show from the Tigers looks a long shot, especially with Trey Yesavage bringing a ridiculous 0.68 ERA to the mound. Opposing him, Ty Madden takes the ball for Detroit and looks to back up his sharp start to the season. Backing a low-scoring game makes plenty of sense, with both recent form and both lineups lacking much spark.
The Tigers’ chronic inconsistency 
The Comerica Park side have been far stronger in front of their own fans, with 12 wins and 6 losses, but the bats still aren’t reliable enough to expect regular run fests. Getting over the disappointment of New York will take work, and doing it against a dominant ace is a tough ask. A big individual moment or a bold steal on the bases could keep the Tigers in it, but building steady pressure to clear 8.5 runs looks a difficult task.
Toronto up against the Tigers 
The Canadian side have really struggled on the road this season at 6-13, too often leaning on the odd flash of inspiration. They’ve got enough power to break an inning open, but not the consistency to stack up five or six runs on a regular night. Tonight, they run into Madden, who has done an excellent job of keeping the Tigers out of trouble and avoiding sudden blow-ups. Unless they launch one into the seats early, this one is likely to turn into a flat, tight affair.

The under looks especially attractive given how lifeless both attacks have been. Home comfort usually helps the Tigers, but the post-trip reset and the Yesavage wall seriously limit their upside. The visitors do not inspire much more confidence and will have to deal with a very disciplined opposing starter. A 2-2 or 3-2 game deep into the night feels the most realistic path. The bullpen always brings some risk, but the starting pitching on both sides gives this call a solid base. Expect a dull game and a lower-scoring night, with a tight Tigers contest very much in play!
