Estoril vs Maritimo: two points from ten games, and an interim coach on the bench
Two points from ten games leaves Estoril bottom of the Primeira Liga, and the man who took charge of the last of those games normally coaches the club’s under-23s. Sérgio Raimundo stepped in after Vasco Matos left by mutual agreement eight games into the season, and his first match ended in a 4-0 defeat at Porto on 31 October.
Marítimo visit the Estádio António Coimbra da Mota on Sunday 8 November, with kick-off at 15:30 UK time, and they arrive six points better off. The newly promoted side are 14th with eight points from ten games, one point clear of 17th place.
Neither defence offers much comfort. Estoril have scored five league goals and conceded 19, while Marítimo have scored nine and let in 21, so this is a meeting between two of the weakest goal records in the division.
It’s also the first league meeting between the clubs since Marítimo were relegated in 2023. The last one, in May of that year, finished 3-1 to Estoril, and across 17 meetings Estoril have won seven, Marítimo three, with seven draws.
The prices don’t match the table. Estoril are favourites at 2.09, with the draw at 3.50 and Marítimo at 3.44, which is a generous view of a home side that hasn’t won a league game since the season started. That gap between price and form is where my interest in this fixture begins.
Estoril: five straight league defeats and a slump that goes back to last spring
The losing run started with a 1-0 defeat at Braga on 14 September. Estoril then lost 2-1 at home to Casa Pia, 2-1 at Académico de Viseu, 3-1 at home to Moreirense on 25 October and 4-0 at Porto, with only a 1-1 Taça de Portugal draw at Salgueiros breaking the sequence.
The trouble predates this season. Estoril took two points from their last eight league games of 2025-26, which means they’ve collected four points from their last 18 league matches across two campaigns.
Home form offers little relief. Their last five games at the António Coimbra da Mota have brought two draws and three defeats, with three goals scored and eight conceded, and the 0-0 against Arouca on 7 September is the only clean sheet in that spell.
Goals are the bigger worry. Estoril failed to score in half of their last ten matches in all competitions, and Yanis Begraoui, their top league scorer with two goals, hasn’t played since 20 September. He’s pushing to be available, and he’d be a welcome return for an attack that has averaged 0.5 goals a game over that run.
There’s some good news in the squad. Joel Robles is expected back in goal and Holsgrove returns, while Ricard Sánchez and João Carvalho, who started the Porto game on the bench, are in line to start. Pedro Carvalho left that match with a possible concussion and Peixinho took a knock, and Fabrício Garcia is out until late November with a ligament injury. The club is also expected to name a permanent coach in the coming days, with João Pereira, Custódio Castro and Daniel Sousa all mentioned.

Maritimo: the leakiest away defence in the league, but goals in most of their games
Marítimo arrive on a poor run of their own. They lost 2-0 at home to Santa Clara on 1 November, went out of the Taça da Liga with a 2-1 defeat at Sporting and were beaten 5-0 at Vitória SC on 23 October, three straight defeats in all competitions and one win in their last ten.
The away record explains the worry. Marítimo have conceded 12 goals in five away league games, the worst figure in the Primeira Liga, and their last five trips have produced one win, one draw and three defeats with a goal difference of 5-12.
Unlike their hosts, though, they usually score. Both teams found the net in seven of Marítimo’s last ten matches and they failed to score in only three, against Estoril’s five blanks over the same stretch. Earlier in the season they drew 1-1 at Gil Vicente and lost only 2-1 at home to Porto.
Mitchell van der Gaag is sticking with a back three of Szalai, Romain Correia and Rafael Fernandes. Maxime Dominguez is being reassessed after missing the Sporting game, and Mons Bassouamina’s call-up by Congo leaves his involvement uncertain, with Simo Bouzaidi the likely replacement if he’s missing.
Martín Tejón has a goal and an assist in ten games, and the scoring has been spread thinly across the squad. A win here would put Marítimo nine points clear of Estoril, and Portuguese reports say both camps are treating it as a decisive game in the relegation fight.
Probable lineup Estoril: J. Robles; Ferro, R. Jurisic, Ricard Sánchez, Pedro Carvalho; Xavi Sintes, Tsoungui, Guitane, João Carvalho, Holsgrove; N. Omerović
Probable lineup Maritimo: Fran Vieites; Szalai, Romain Correia, Rafael Fernandes; Igor Julião, Paulo Henrique, Rodrigo Andrade, Guzzo; Tejón, Butzke, Bassouamina

Our prediction: Maritimo or draw (double chance) (1.73)
Estoril are winless after ten league games, have lost five in a row and have taken four points from their last 18 league matches. They’ve scored five goals all season and are on at least their third coach. Pricing that side as a 2.09 favourite against anyone looks too short.
Marítimo’s away defence is poor, and that’s the main risk with this pick: a side conceding 2.4 goals a game on their travels could easily be beaten. But they score more often than Estoril, and Estoril haven’t shown they can turn a lead into a win at any point this season.
The double chance on Marítimo at 1.73 covers the draw, which suits a game between two struggling defences and an attack that rarely fires. I’d back the visitors not to lose.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.
