Winnipeg Jets vs New Jersey Devils: Hellebuyck’s first game back in Winnipeg, four wins from four starts NHL

Connor Hellebuyck has started four games for New Jersey and won all four. Only one other goaltender in Devils history, John Vanbiesbrouck in 2000-01, had done that with the club. On Tuesday 10 November, at 7:00pm ET, Hellebuyck plays in Winnipeg for the first time since the Jets traded him on 23 October.

The deal reshaped both teams in two weeks. New Jersey is 7-1-0 over its last eight games and sits second in the Metropolitan with 22 points. Winnipeg lost its first five games after the trade, the back end of a nine-game winless run, before turning things around this week.

That turnaround came fast. The Jets trailed Montreal 4-0 with 2:39 left in the third period on Tuesday 3 November and won 5-4 in overtime, the latest four-goal comeback in NHL history. Two nights later they beat Vancouver 6-2 at home, scoring twice in 14 seconds in the first period.

Dawson Mercer, who went to Winnipeg in the Hellebuyck trade, scored his first goal for the Jets in that win. Coach Scott Arniel said afterwards that Mercer was starting to feel part of the group, and he’s being used on the penalty kill as well as at even strength.

The schedule matters here. New Jersey plays at the Islanders on Saturday and at Toronto on Sunday, so Tuesday will be its third game in four days. Winnipeg hosts Tampa Bay on Sunday and then gets Monday off. The records below are as they stood on Friday morning.

Winnipeg Jets: 60 goals allowed in 17 games, and two straight wins after nine without one Winnipeg Jets

Winnipeg is 6-8-3 with 15 points, seventh in the Central. The Jets have scored 45 goals and allowed 60, a -15 difference, and only San Jose, Chicago and Vancouver have conceded more in the West.

The worst stretch ran from mid-October to 1 November. Winnipeg went nine games without a win (0-7-2), and the last three were heavy defeats: 6-4 in Tampa Bay, 5-2 in Florida and 7-0 in Carolina. Florida beat the Jets twice inside a week during that run, 5-1 in Winnipeg and 5-2 in Sunrise.

Stuart Skinner has carried the net. He’s started 12 of the 17 games, including both wins this week, and made 24 saves against Vancouver. Stevenson has four starts and has won one of them.

The secondary scoring finally showed up on Thursday. Alex Iafallo, Cole Koepke, Mercer, Neal Pionk, Mark Scheifele and Mario Ferraro all scored, and Kyle Connor and Dylan DeMelo had two assists each. Viggo Bjorck, the No. 8 pick in the 2026 draft, picked up his first NHL point in his 17th game.

The blue line has questions. Haydn Fleury left the Vancouver game in the third period after taking a shot off the hand, and Arniel described his status as wait and see. Elias Salomonsson was scratched because of illness. Winnipeg is 3-4-1 at Canada Life Centre this season.

New Jersey Devils: 8-2-0 at home, 3-3-0 away, and a goaltender who hasn’t lost yet New Jersey Devils

New Jersey is 11-5-0 with a +10 goal difference, 57 scored and 47 allowed. The Devils have won three straight and haven’t lost a game Hellebuyck has started: 5-1 in Dallas, 5-2 in Vegas, 4-3 in a shootout against Edmonton and 5-4 in overtime against St. Louis.

Thursday’s win was the least convincing of the four. New Jersey led St. Louis 4-1 with less than nine minutes left, then allowed three goals in 3:08, the last after Connor McMichael stole an attempted pass from Hellebuyck in the right circle. Jesper Bratt won it 1:26 into overtime on a breakaway.

Hellebuyck still made 28 saves that night and took the blame for two of the goals himself. Anthony Mantha, who scored twice, pointed out that the Devils had given up more than 30 shots, which he said wasn’t typical of the team.

The scoring is spread across the roster. Mantha had two goals and an assist, Bratt and Luke Hughes a goal and an assist each, and Jack Hughes and Brett Pesce two assists apiece. Luke Hughes has points in three straight games, two goals and two assists.

The road record is the one weak number. The Devils are 8-2-0 at Prudential Center and 3-3-0 away from it, with defeats in New York, Washington and Colorado, the first of them 6-0. Two of the three road wins, in Dallas and Vegas, came with Hellebuyck in goal.

Our prediction: New Jersey Devils to win (overtime included)

We’re backing New Jersey. The Devils are 7-1-0 in their last eight, Hellebuyck is 4-0-0 since the trade, and Winnipeg has allowed 3.53 goals a game this season against New Jersey’s 2.94. Two wins this week, one against a Vancouver team that has lost 14 of 15, don’t undo nine games without a win.

The case against us is the schedule. New Jersey arrives on its third game in four days, after back-to-back road games on Saturday and Sunday, while Winnipeg will have had a day’s rest. That’s why we’re including overtime rather than asking the Devils to win in 60 minutes.

The goaltending gap settles it for us. Skinner has been the Jets’ starter through the whole slide, while Hellebuyck, even on his worst night in New Jersey, has won every start. We’d want the better goaltender and the better team in a game played in front of a crowd that knows him well.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

No commitment from us

Our predictions carry no contractual value. They have no legal standing. In short: you cannot rely on them to claim anything if a bet doesn’t come through.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.

Your responsibility

Before placing a bet, simply check that gambling is legal in your country. If it isn’t, that’s your responsibility, not ours.

Responsible gambling

We can’t say it enough: gamble responsibly. If you’re struggling to stay in control, don’t wait to seek help.
