Crystal Palace vs Liverpool: no Mateta, no Sarr and three league games without a goal
Jean-Philippe Mateta’s red card at Tottenham on 31 October carries a three-match Premier League ban, and Liverpool are the first of those games. Palace will meet them at Selhurst Park on Sunday 8 November, 14:00 UK time, without the striker who led their line in Istanbul last month.
The timing matters because of what the table already shows. Palace are 18th with seven points from nine games, two wins, one draw and six defeats, and a goal difference of minus 12. Their last three league matches were a 5-0 loss at Brighton, a 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle and the 2-0 at Spurs, and they failed to score in any of them.
Liverpool are fifth on 15 points, with four wins, three draws and two defeats. They lost 1-0 at home to Arsenal last weekend, after October wins of 2-0 over Brighton, 2-1 at Brentford and 6-3 at LASK.
The fixture list is uneven as well. Liverpool play at Fenerbahce on Wednesday evening, while Palace host Hoffenheim in the Europa League on Thursday, 17:45 UK time, which leaves Pierre Sage’s side a day less to recover.
These clubs split last season’s league meetings. Palace won 2-1 at Selhurst Park on 27 September 2025, and Liverpool won the return 3-1 at Anfield on 25 April. That home win is worth remembering, though the Palace side of 2026 is in a far weaker position.
Crystal Palace: 21 conceded in nine, and the forward line down to Pino
Palace have conceded 21 league goals in nine games and scored nine. Their record at Selhurst Park has offered little relief, with three points from their first four home matches.
Ismaila Sarr’s groin injury is expected to keep him out until after the international break, and Palace have lost five of the eight games he’s missed. Takehiro Tomiyasu has a calf problem and Chadi Riad a knee injury, and Jorgen Strand Larsen (ankle) and Quinten Timber (hamstring) both missed the Spurs game.
Strand Larsen’s fitness is the question that matters most this week, because Mateta’s ban leaves him as the obvious replacement. If he isn’t ready, the attack falls to Yeremy Pino, who has scored in all three European games but has one Premier League goal in nine appearances.
Sage replaced Oliver Glasner in June and has kept Palace competitive in Europe, with four points from three games and eight goals. The league has gone the other way. Their last win in it was the 3-1 against Nottingham Forest on 11 October, and the 1-0 at Fulham in the Carabao Cup on 28 October is their only clean sheet since.
The Spurs game also produced the lowest possession figure Palace have recorded in the Premier League, 20.6%, though they played almost the whole match with ten men. Kamada, who has three league assists, and Adam Wharton are both available to supply whoever starts up front.

Liverpool: ten away points from four, and Isak leading a short front line
Liverpool’s away form is the strongest part of their league season. They took ten points from their first four trips, and their wider away record shows four wins and a draw from five.
Alexander Isak went into the Arsenal game with six Premier League goals in seven appearances, and his importance has grown with Hugo Ekitike out with an Achilles injury. His latest came against Brighton on 25 October, a close-range finish after 21 minutes.
The defensive numbers are good by the standards of this division. They’d conceded eight in eight league games before the Arsenal defeat, though the European results tell a looser story: 6-3 at LASK and 4-3 against Villarreal in October.
Full-back is where the squad is thinnest. Conor Bradley (knee) and Jeremie Frimpong (hamstring) are out, Giovanni Leoni is also missing with a knee injury, and Victor Munoz was given a 25% chance of playing last weekend. Dominik Szoboszlai’s hamstring problem is the other concern, and Wednesday’s night in Istanbul will show how much he can do.
Their scoring output is spread across a midfield with Florian Wirtz, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch projected to start, and Liverpool’s last five games, Arsenal included, brought 14 goals. Palace’s last five produced four goals for and 14 against.
Probable lineup Crystal Palace: Benitez; Richards, Canvot, Mitchell, Khalaili, Disasi; Wharton, Kamada, Pino, McNeil; Strand Larsen (if fit)
Probable lineup Liverpool: Becker; Virgil, Jacquet, Kerkez, Araujo; Mac Allister, Barcola, Wirtz, Gakpo, Gravenberch; Isak

Our prediction: Liverpool to win at 1.57
The price reflects most of what’s above: Liverpool 1.57, the draw 4.33 and Palace 5.50. I think it’s a fair number rather than a short one, given that Palace have no goals in three league games and have lost Mateta for this one.
Palace’s best argument is last season’s 2-1 here, and Liverpool’s European defending suggests they’ll concede chances. Even so, Palace would need to find goals with a forward line missing its first-choice striker and Sarr, three days after a Europa League game.
Liverpool’s ten points from four away games, set against Palace’s three from four at home, is the comparison I keep returning to. Isak isn’t on the injury list, the hosts are short of forwards, and an extra day’s rest sits with the visitors.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.
