Los Angeles Clippers vs New Orleans Pelicans – Free NBA Prediction – Nov 08

Los Angeles Clippers vs New Orleans Pelicans: six straight losses meet three straight wins NBA

Toronto outscored the Clippers 47-27 in the fourth quarter on Monday and won 125-118 at Intuit Dome. Los Angeles had led by 14. It was the sixth straight defeat for a team that’s now 1-6.

The Pelicans started 0-4, then beat Sacramento 132-120, Atlanta 121-99 and handed Memphis its first loss of the season, 135-134 in overtime on Monday.

They meet on Sunday 8 November at 9:00pm ET in Inglewood, and I’m not convinced the Clippers should be favored in their own building. ESPN’s matchup predictor has it at 51.6% to 48.4% for Los Angeles, close to a coin flip, before anyone has adjusted for how these two have played in the last 10 days.

The Clippers host Miami on Wednesday, while the Pelicans play Utah on Wednesday and host Minnesota on Friday, so the injury reports could shift before tip-off.

No lines were available when we filed. The conference table reads 11th for New Orleans and 13th for Los Angeles.

Los Angeles Clippers: 108.1 points a game with Beal and Ingram both out Los Angeles Clippers

The Clippers score 108.1 points a game and turn it over 19.6 times, and both numbers come straight from the injury report. Bradley Beal is out with a knee injury, Brandon Ingram with an Achilles problem, and Yanic Konan Niederhauser with a foot injury. Jordan Miller’s shoulder will keep him out until around March.

Darius Garland is carrying the offense at 20.1 points and 6.6 assists, and he’s also averaging 5.4 turnovers. That’s a lot of possessions lost by one guard, and it’s why the Pelicans’ 12.9 steals a game stands out in this matchup.

Kobe Sanders scored a career-high 26 against Toronto, and Isaiah Jackson had 19 off the bench in his first game as a reserve this season. Three quarters of that game looked like a team finding answers before the fourth took it away.

The margins in this run have varied: 127-101 in Minnesota, 124-112 at Golden State, 103-87 to the Lakers, 108-101 at Oklahoma City. Then came Monday’s 14-point lead over Toronto, gone by the final horn.

The defense is the better half here, 115.4 points allowed against 120.1 for New Orleans. It hasn’t been good enough, and the home record of 1-2 gives the building little weight. Los Angeles also shoots 45% from the field as a team, five points below New Orleans at 50%, and that gap has followed it through the whole skid.

Rui Hachimura and Derrick Jones Jr. have both come off the injury report, so the Clippers will have two more forwards than they’ve had for parts of this skid. That helps the defense more than the attack, and Los Angeles has scored more than 112 just once in its last five games.

New Orleans Pelicans: 121.9 points on 50% shooting, with Zion at 63.6% New Orleans Pelicans

Zion Williamson is shooting 63.6% from the field and averaging 21.3 points. In Memphis on Monday he had 25 points and 11 rebounds, and Karlo Matkovic matched him with 25.

Jeremiah Fears made the two free throws that won it with 7.3 seconds left in overtime, and Ty Jerome, who scored 40 for Memphis, missed from 15 feet at the other end. Fears is averaging 4.9 assists and has become a closer for this group.

New Orleans shoots 50% as a team and scores 121.9 a game, more than 13 points clear of the Clippers. Derik Queen adds 7.7 rebounds, and the Pelicans win the glass in this matchup by about four a night, 44.4 to 40.4.

The weakness is the 120.1 points they allow. Denver scored 141 on them in overtime on 24 October, and Memphis put up 134 on Monday. This isn’t a team that’ll win a game in the 90s.

Trey Murphy III is probable for Wednesday with a knee issue, Dejounte Murray is off the report after a personal absence, and Jordan Poole is a game-time call with an ankle injury. Yves Missi is the only Pelican firmly out.

The streak began on 29 October with the 132-120 win over Sacramento, in a game where neither team had a win. Two nights later New Orleans led Atlanta by 17 after one quarter and ended a four-game losing run against the Hawks. Its turnover count sits at 16.7 a game, close to three fewer than the Clippers commit, and that’s before the 12.9 steals are added to the ledger.

Free NBA Prediction: Los Angeles Clippers vs New Orleans Pelicans

Our prediction: New Orleans Pelicans to win

I’d back the Pelicans outright. They score 13.8 more points a game, they shoot better, they rebound better, and they steal the ball from a team that already gives it away 19.6 times.

The case for the Clippers is home court and a defense that’s better than New Orleans’ by nearly five points a game. They haven’t stopped six straight losses, and a team playing without Beal and Ingram doesn’t have the scoring to punish a poor Pelicans defense.

Talent available on the night decides this one, and I’d take Zion, Murphy and Fears over a Garland-led offense turning it over this often, particularly with Sanders and Jackson still new to these roles. New Orleans has already scored 120-plus in all three wins of this streak.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
