Florida Panthers vs Chicago Blackhawks: 11 goals scored and 28 allowed on the road for Chicago NHL

Chicago has played six road games this season, scored 11 goals, allowed 28 and picked up a single point. That point came in overtime in Boston on Saturday, and the road trip that matters now starts on Wednesday 4 November at Amerant Bank Arena, puck drop 7:30pm ET, on TNT.

The Blackhawks are 4-10-1, last in the Central Division with nine points, and they’ve won once in their last seven. Monday’s 5-2 home loss to Colorado followed a familiar pattern: Wyatt Kaiser and Roman Kantserov gave them a 2-0 lead in the first period, and Colorado scored four unanswered before an empty-netter.

Patrick Kane left that game in the second period with an upper-body injury. His status for this trip wasn’t clear at the time of writing, and Bowen Byram, listed as out until at least 4 November, has already missed eight straight.

Florida’s week has been less dramatic. The Panthers had won three straight before Detroit beat them 5-3 in Sunrise on Monday, and they’re tied on 18 points in the middle of the Atlantic Division at 8-5-2, with a 47-44 goal difference.

These teams met in Chicago on 25 October and Florida won 3-2. Chicago’s schedule gives it no room to recover from this game either, with Tampa Bay waiting on Thursday and Carolina on Saturday, and I think that stretch makes Wednesday a hard place to find a first road win.

Florida Panthers: Markstrom back in net, Barkov and Marchand still out, and a 24.2% power play Florida Panthers

Jacob Markstrom played on Monday for the first time since 17 October, which should help a team that’s been leaning on Akira Schmid. Schmid has five wins but only an .889 save percentage, and Markstrom’s return produced 24 saves on 28 shots and an .857 night, so the crease isn’t settled yet.

Florida has been without Aleksander Barkov and Brad Marchand, who aren’t expected back until 21 and 27 November respectively. Even with both on injured reserve, the Panthers are 8-5-2.

Matthew Tkachuk has carried much of the playmaking, with four goals and 16 assists through 14 games before Monday and another assist against Detroit. Seth Jones also had 16 assists from the blue line going into that game, and Carter Verhaeghe and Brady Tkachuk have eight goals each.

The power play is where Florida separates itself. It has scored 16 times at a 24.2% conversion rate, and Sam Reinhart has six of his eight goals with the man advantage. Chicago committed six minors against Colorado on Monday and gave up a power-play goal to Nazem Kadri.

The one soft spot is home ice. Florida is 3-2-0 at Amerant Bank Arena and 5-3-2 on the road, although the two home defeats came against Minnesota and Detroit, both of which sit above the Blackhawks by a wide margin.

Chicago Blackhawks: a six-game Bedard point streak and a road record that still shows 0-5-1 Chicago Blackhawks

Connor Bedard extended his point streak to six games with an assist on Monday, which is the brightest number on a poor sheet. Kantserov finished that feed for his goal, and Bedard has been the player opposing defenses still have to plan around.

The trouble starts when the lead has to be protected. Chicago has scored 33 goals and allowed 58 in 15 games, a minus-25 difference that sits among the worst in the league, and it has given up four or more in each of its last two games.

The road numbers show how wide that gap becomes away from the United Center. The Blackhawks lost 5-2 in Vegas, 6-0 in Utah, 4-3 in Buffalo, 4-1 on Long Island and 4-1 in Detroit before Saturday’s 5-4 overtime loss in Boston, which was the first game away from home in which they’ve scored more than three.

Spencer Knight has had a hard job behind that defense. He stopped 24 of 28 shots against Colorado on Monday for an .857 save percentage, and he faces a heavy week with games on three different nights between Wednesday and Saturday.

Colorado scored four unanswered goals on Monday after trailing 2-0, and it took 26 seconds for the first two to go in. That kind of swing has been common for this team, and Kane’s possible absence would remove one of the few veterans able to steady it on the road.

Our prediction: Florida Panthers to win by two or more goals (-1.5 puck line)

Chicago kept the first meeting to a one-goal game and scored four in Boston on Saturday, and Florida’s goaltending isn’t good enough for this pick to feel safe. I still want the bigger margin, because four of the Blackhawks’ six road defeats have come by three goals or more.

A straight moneyline on Florida would almost certainly sit under our 1.45 floor, and the puck line fits the way these teams have played. The Panthers have a 24.2% power play against a team that takes penalties, and Chicago has scored 11 goals in six road games.

No line had been posted when we wrote this, so we aren’t quoting a price. Check the puck line before placing anything and take it only at 1.45 or higher, and check Kane’s status as well.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
