Rugby: Bordeaux-Begles lose second fly-half as Reus breaks wrist

The stand-in is down too

Bordeaux-Begles thought they had solved life without Matthieu Jalibert. On Tuesday that fix broke at the wrist. Hugo Reus announced on Instagram that he has a fracture and will be out for several weeks.

Reus, 22, had started four of Bordeaux-Begles’ last five Top 14 games while Jalibert recovers from an injury that has kept him out for about six weeks. Now both first-choice options at number 10 are unavailable at once.

Laharrague or Retiere on Sunday

That leaves Joseph Laharrague, 20, as the only fly-half available. He is expected to start Sunday’s game against Vannes, the last match before a three-week break. The other route is to move Arthur Retiere into the position, as the club did in its win at Clermont.

Either way, the club has little room to manage. The week-to-week question is now who runs the attack, and with a break coming after Vannes there is at least time to regroup.

The wrist news lands on the same day the club confirmed that attack coach Noel McNamara will leave at the end of the season to become head coach of Leinster.
