Fulham vs Newcastle United: Ramsey’s late red and a defence facing more shots than anyone
Jacob Ramsey picked up two yellow cards in stoppage time on Monday, and his red card in the 1-0 home defeat to Everton should rule him out of Newcastle United’s trip to Fulham. It was Newcastle’s second loss to Everton in four days, following the 3-1 Carabao Cup exit, and it dropped them to 13th.
The game at Craven Cottage is on Saturday 7 November, kick-off 15:00 UK time. Newcastle have 11 points from nine (W3 D2 L4), and Fulham are 15th on nine (W2 D3 L4), so a home win would put Alvaro Arbeloa’s side level on points with their visitors.
Both managers are under some scrutiny, for different reasons. Arbeloa took four points from his last two games, a 1-0 win at Coventry and a 1-1 at Aston Villa, without yet moving the club out of the bottom six. Matthias Jaissle, who replaced Eddie Howe at Newcastle in the summer, has lost four of nine league games and has had the short week after Monday’s game to fix it.
The last six meetings are split evenly at three wins each. Fulham won the most recent, 2-0 here on the final day of last season, 24 May, with Issa Diop heading in a rebound on 20 minutes and Tom Cairney adding the second on 80. Newcastle won the two meetings before that, both 2-1, in October and December 2025.
The market has Fulham at 2.12, the draw at 3.75 and Newcastle at 3.35. Fulham’s home advantage is doing most of the work in that price, and given how Newcastle have defended away from St James’ Park, I don’t think it’s wrong.
Fulham: four points from two games, and very little from open play
Fulham have scored two league goals in those two games, and neither says much for their open-play creation. Oscar Bobb got the winner at Coventry on 80 minutes, and the equaliser at Villa Park was an own goal, Zion Suzuki dropping Alex Iwobi’s corner behind his own line on 64 minutes.
That draw at Villa was a useful one. John McGinn hit the crossbar with an early penalty, awarded by VAR for a handball by Sander Berge, and Fulham had the better of the second half once they’d levelled, even if they didn’t create a clear chance after the equaliser. Iwobi had already missed from close range a minute before it.
Arbeloa has one enforced change at left-back, with Ryan Sessegnon still suspended, and no other absences have been reported. Joshua King and Bobb are expected to start, with Iwobi and Gonzalo Garcia both options for the attack.
Fulham’s goal difference of minus two is better than Newcastle’s minus three, even with two fewer points. They finished 11th on 52 points last season.
Craven Cottage has also been a good place to catch Newcastle recently. Fulham won 3-1 here in September 2024 and 2-0 in May, and a third straight home league win against them would lift Arbeloa’s side towards mid-table.

Newcastle United: 138 shots faced in eight games and 4-1 twice on the road
Newcastle faced 138 shots across their first eight league games, the most in the Premier League, and allowed at least 15 in six of them. Their expected goals against of 13.7 over that stretch was the fourth-worst in the division, and they’d conceded 14 by the end of it.
The away results reflect that. Leeds beat them 4-1 at Elland Road on 14 September, and Coventry repeated the score on 12 October. Those two 4-1 defeats account for eight of the goals they’ve let in this season.
Monday’s defeat wasn’t a collapse, and it shouldn’t be read as one. Anthony Elanga’s shot hit the post and ran across the line without going in, Yoane Wissa forced Jordan Pickford into a save on 90 minutes, and only Barry’s tap-in separated the sides.
Harvey Barnes remains the main threat, with four goals and three assists in his last 12 league appearances, and he was the liveliest player in the first half on Monday. Newcastle’s problem position is left-back: Tino Livramento is out, Ewen Jaouen is unavailable in goal, and Lewis Miley, Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Will Osula are all uncertain.
Elanga is back from injury and Jacob Murphy and Barnes are available, so Jaissle isn’t short of forwards. The difficulty lies behind them, and in the fact that a side playing its third game in ten days has to defend better than it has done on the road so far.

Our prediction: Fulham to win (2.12)
My pick is Fulham to win at 2.12. They’ve had a full week to prepare, they’ve taken four points from two games, and Newcastle arrive having lost twice to Everton in four days with Ramsey sent off and several players uncertain.
Newcastle have the more dangerous forwards, and Fulham’s two most recent goals came from a late Bobb winner and a goalkeeping error. That’s a real concern for a side relying on open play to break a mid-table opponent.
The shot volume is what settles it. A team that allowed 138 shots in eight games and lost 4-1 twice on the road is vulnerable to King, Bobb and Iwobi, and Fulham have beaten Newcastle in three of the last six meetings.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.
