Denver finishes the job on the last snap
Kansas City had the ball at the goal line with the game on the line. Denver sacked Patrick Mahomes on the final play. That was the difference in a 28-24 Broncos win on Sunday, one that moves Denver to 6-2, into first place in the AFC West and level on head-to-head with the Chiefs.
The Broncos had trailed by 11 in the fourth quarter. Bo Nix, who was 15 of 26 for 153 yards and 1 of 8 on third down heading into the period, went 5 of 6 for 84 yards in the fourth, helped by two Kansas City coverage busts. Nate Adkins caught a touchdown, and rookie Jonah Coleman scored the go-ahead score.
Coleman led the Broncos with 41 rushing yards on 11 carries and added 63 yards as a receiver.

Reid’s field goal call looms large
Kansas City led by three with under three minutes left after Mahomes took a bad sack. Andy Reid then sent Harrison Butker out for a long field goal try on fourth-and-8 from the Denver 36. Butker missed wide right. He is now 2 for 7 from 50 yards or longer this season.
Mahomes still put up 30-of-41 for 321 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. Emmett Johnson led the Chiefs with five catches for 128 yards and had a 73-yard touchdown, while Travis Kelce had five catches for 67 and Rashee Rice seven for 53. The Chiefs’ deep game has gone quiet, though. Mahomes has no completions of 20 or more yards in his past three games.
A habit for Nix
Nix now has 15 game-winning drives and 12 fourth-quarter comebacks since entering the league in 2024. Under him, Denver averages 8.1 points per fourth quarter, the highest mark for any starting quarterback since at least 1950. The Broncos have won four straight.
