LASK vs Slovan Bratislava – Free Champions League Prediction

LASK vs Slovan Bratislava: the winners in Lisbon host the only side in the league phase without a point Champions League

LASK won 3-2 at Sporting CP on 21 October. Sporting had beaten Galatasaray 3-1 and won 2-0 at Lens in their first two games, and no Champions League opponent had scored three against them this season until the Austrians did it in Lisbon.

The result gave LASK their first points of the league phase after a 1-0 defeat at AEK Athens and a 6-3 home defeat to Liverpool. It also ended a poor European record away from home: before Lisbon they’d lost nine straight away games in UEFA competition and hadn’t won in ten group or league-phase matches.

Slovan Bratislava come to Linz on Tuesday 3 November, kick-off 20:00 UK time at the Raiffeisen Arena, bottom of the 36-team table. They lost 6-1 at Paris Saint-Germain, 3-0 at home to Stuttgart and 4-0 at Roma, so they’ve scored once and conceded 13 in three games.

There’s no previous meeting between the clubs. This is LASK’s first season in the league phase, reached after they lost the first leg of their play-off 3-0 at Celtic and won the return 5-1 in Linz, and they’re the fifth Austrian club to play in the competition proper.

The bookmakers have LASK at 1.42, the draw at 4.50 and Slovan at 7.00. Those prices reflect three heavy Slovan defeats, but we don’t think they account for how often LASK concede, and that’s where our angle comes from.

LASK have let in a goal in eight of their last nine matches in all competitions, and they’ve conceded nine in three Champions League games.

LASK: six Champions League goals scored, nine conceded LASK

LASK have scored six Champions League goals in three games and conceded nine. The 6-3 against Liverpool on 14 October accounts for most of both columns, but they also gave up two in the win at Sporting and one in Athens.

The domestic picture follows the same line. They lost 1-3 at home to Salzburg on 25 October, then beat Ried 5-4 in the Austrian Cup three days later after trailing 1-0 at half-time. Before that came a 4-0 win at Austria Lustenau, a 2-0 home defeat to Rapid Wien and a 3-3 draw at Hartberg.

Across their last ten games LASK have averaged 2.6 goals scored and 2.4 conceded. Three of their last five league games have ended in defeat, and the 4-0 at Lustenau is their only clean sheet in that run.

The home crowd is part of their case. LASK beat Celtic 5-1 in Linz in August to overturn a 3-0 first-leg deficit, and their early league form included home wins of 3-0 over Grazer AK, 4-1 over Ried and 3-0 over Altach.

They play WSG Tirol in the Bundesliga on Saturday evening, three days before Slovan arrive. Team news for Tuesday hadn’t been confirmed at the time of writing.

Slovan Bratislava: one goal and 13 conceded in Europe, but scoring every week at home Slovan Bratislava

Slovan’s three Champions League games have produced one goal and 13 conceded. The goal came in the 6-1 defeat in Paris on 9 September, and they’ve failed to score in both games since: 0-3 against Stuttgart in Bratislava on 14 October and 0-4 at Roma six days later.

The domestic form is much healthier. Slovan have scored in each of their last six league games, winning 3-0 at Spartak Trnava on 17 October and 2-0 at Trencin on 28 October, either side of a 2-2 home draw with Dukla Banska Bystrica.

Their away record in the league has been the stronger half of their season. Since a 2-0 defeat at DAC Dunajska Streda on 5 September, they’ve won at Komarno, Spartak Trnava and Trencin and drawn 1-1 at Skalica, and they also won 3-1 at Nitra in the cup. That DAC game is still their last league defeat.

The weakness has been at the back. They drew 3-3 at home to Zilina in September and conceded twice to Dukla last weekend, and they’ve kept two clean sheets in their last seven league games.

Slovan play away at Zeleziarne Podbrezova on Saturday, so both sides come into Tuesday on the same rest. After Linz they host Trencin in the league and then Real Betis on 24 November.

Free Champions League Prediction: LASK vs Slovan Bratislava

Our prediction: Both teams to score @ 1.57

LASK should win this, but 1.42 is below the price we’d recommend, so we’ve gone to the market that best fits both sides’ numbers. LASK have conceded in eight of their last nine games, including three at home to Salzburg and four at home to Ried in the past week.

The argument against is Slovan’s European scoring: one goal in three games, and none in the last two. We’d weight their domestic run more heavily than usual here, because those two blanks came against Stuttgart and Roma, while LASK’s back line has conceded nine times in three Champions League games and has kept one clean sheet in its last ten matches.

Slovan have scored in six league games in a row, and LASK concede at home as readily as anywhere. Both teams to score at 1.57 is our pick, with a LASK win the likelier result.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
